Contest| Throwback Moment: Share a Memorable Childhood Story

Hi @deepak94, thanks for reminding me of my childhood story.

I was born in Apostolic Church, Ikot Edor in Akwa Ibom state. I had my primary school in Qua Iboe Group School Ikot Edor. It was a government school. The school start from kindergarten till primary 6. The story I'm about to share is about how my language disappeared from my mouth.

My full name is Saviour Willie and my username is @deetalka6. All throughout my stay in the village I was very sound in speaking Ibibio. But after I left village—after I graduated from primary 6 and had written my common entrance. I travelled to Port Harcourt to continue my secondary education. I first resided in Elelenwo with my Uncle where I learnt how to repair generation.

But this environment wasn't suitable for me. I was having serious issues with my health. And so because of this, my uncle concluded that I should return to my parents in Port Harcourt. I moved immediately.

I spent like 1 year before I gained admission into secondary school. It was a big time burden for me because I couldn't speak English very well. Whenever I speak, friends and strangers will laugh at me. And they will tag me as Calabar boy based on the intonation that was displaying.

I continued in such shame until when I entered SS1 class. There was a program I attended and part of the program was about Asking God to teach us how to speak English. I didn't take it serious until I met a book—motivational, which led me to serious prayer with my father.

I started communicating with God and I was telling him to take away that Calabar tongue as the people always describe and give me an English tongue. I prayed this prayer for closely two months and how God did it I didn't know. I can't recall the exact day that led the miracle, but I truly know that I started seeing myself in a competition and those who mocked and laughed at me started regretting why they have done that.

I became the very best in my school. When it comes to speaking English fluently, I was number one. They started fixing me in a national debatory contest and further more due to how miraculous I was in my English communication. Nobody knew how it happen. The only difference was that, they were all shocked at my story.

Not long, few years after I graduated from secondary school, I discovered that I can't speak my language again. But I can only hear when the Ibibio speak, but to respond was a very big problem.

I know for sure that that language will one-day drop like a dots in my mouth.
