With the trends that have followed the modern technology, social media forms part of the reality that shapes our interactions, the flow of information, and perspective on reality. It helps the world to be connected and also improves the sharing of information and many other things but on the other side it bring challenges like privacy issue and fake news. For Steemit Engagement Challenge Season-19/ Week-6, I will be delving into the topic of "How are social media affecting our society in both good and bad ways?" My goal is to analyze the various and complex effects of these platforms.

What are the benefits of social media to our society?

To my understanding, social media has enhanced the quality of our society in the following ways. Firstly, it has affected the manner of communication, making it possible for people to make communication across the world just a mere push of a button away. Through this connectivity, they are able to develop international relationships and interaction that enhance the exchange of culture dismissing geographical dimensions. Moreover, social networks help people share essential information and find like-minded individuals in order to call for changes and support those who cannot enunciate themselves. It offers information and help seeking options for concerned people, thus strengthening the activity of communities. In addition, it provides entertainment and leisure since it can be a platform for people to showcase their creativity and post useful information or good ideas to more people. In general, social network has played a vital role in improving communication, participating in social activities, and promoting creativity.

What are the evils caused by social media in our society?

In my view, social media also comes with problems to our society as we embrace the use of social media platforms. There is always controversy on the verifying of rumors which may cause confusion to the general public. The last issue is the privacy issue because personal data can be used unlawfully by different parties. Also, social networking websites cause stress and anxiety, self-loathing, and depression because one has to struggle to maintain the appearance and compete with others. Online bullying and intimidation are more common, interfering with people’s health and security. Also, one can spend numerous hours in front of the screens, which results in a decrease in performance and interference with actual interaction with other people. Thus although there many benefits of social media these negative side effects show why there should be good conduct while using this forum.

Is social media really useful for common people or corporate companies?

I think social media play an important role for the common people and corporate companies but in different aspects. For ordinary citizen’s social media is something that they can use to share their thoughts and opinions, communicate with friends and families and get much needed information and encouragement. It enables people to report their stories, form groups based on their passions, and participate in social issues, which gives people identity and knowledge.

In contrast, the big firms use social media for advertising, promotion and creating awareness, and thus interacting with consumers. It gives businesses great opportunities for a wide coverage, advertising goods and services, getting first-hand consumers’ response at rather reasonable price. From where businesses are concerned, social media provides definite advantages in relation to sales promotion, realization of market image and keeping up with the dynamic market environment.

In general case, social media is a tool that can be very useful for both the individual and the business, which utilize this platform in order to reach specific ends and purposes.

To my mind, social networks are tools that have a high impact on society with a number of advantages and disadvantages. It is effective in providing interpersonal links, identity, and knowledge Exchange making individual and organizational life fuller. It also has drawbacks including fake news, concerns with user’s details, and general health complications.

All in all, it is possible to note that social media changed our interaction with each other and it is necessary to use it properly. Being aware of the possible bounce rate, we are able to optimize the positive impact, thus reducing its negative side and make of it a positive influence in our existence.
