Game Review #05 | Terraria (2011)

Hello guys, I'm @afnanmugdho and today I'm going to review one of my favorite game, Terraria.

In Terraria, you're merely a human who has been placed into a strange new planet and is entrusted with surviving as best you can.

When you start the game and get through the amazingly detailed character creation screen, you're sent to a randomly created world full of creatures, dungeons, tunnels, jungles, and all manner of intriguing life that coalesces into an incredible ecosystem.

Terraria drops you on the colorful surface of a randomly generated pixel planet with nothing but a handful of tools and the vague feeling that you're supposed to construct items, explore the environment, and combat enemies after you've finished personalizing your sprite avatar. It's a little difficult to figure out how that's done at first. A lone guide can be found strolling the surface, but his advise is unpredictable. Because there was no tutorial, I had to study the game's Wiki page to learn how things worked and what could be created. Even so, it didn't take long to figure out what was going on. The powerful fantasy trappings create a desire to explore despite the lack of actual plot components or great missions to overcome. Both on the surface and in the dark depths below, magic, monsters, and mayhem await. Unexpected new prizes and dangers are a significant element of the game's appeal.

The whole game environment is destructible, and destroying blocks allows you to acquire essential materials like as stone, wood, and iron, which you can use to craft fantastic items or construct constructions. Slaying skeletons, floating fanged creatures, and other monsters, as well as digging further into the underground abyss, will drop rarer materials. Because scavenging for different components and seeing what you can create with them makes up such a significant part of Terraria's gameplay, the desire to explore every nook and corner of the world comes naturally. However, you must balance your urge to go exploring in the hopes of gathering massive amounts of riches with the pressing necessity to construct shelter and develop your spawn point's home base.

A day/night cycle governs life on the surface. It's safer to explore topside during the day since you may collect flowers, stroll about, chop trees, and kill weak slimes that go too close. It's also a good time to construct dwellings that will provide shelter and attract helpful NPCs to your colony. When night falls, things start to get dangerous; zombie hordes and floating eyeball animals swarm the area, compelling you to battle or run. Once you've established a solid settlement, this becomes less of a concern.

The immensely deep gear making system is the actual driving force behind exploring. Almost everything you find in the game is a component that will be utilized to forge a key piece of equipment. There are well over a hundred weapons and stuff to construct. Though certain items are more useful than others, like as defensive armor, grappling hooks for easier navigation, and treasure chests for storing wealth. The majority of the equipment meant to cleave enemies into itty pieces is pure awesome. Magical boomerangs, laser guns, fireball-spewing spell books, light sabers, and ninja stars are just a few of the more bizarre weaponry you may create. It's easy to become obsessed with tracking down the uncommon items you'll need to make the greatest weaponry.

A few additional unique features add to the fun of exploring, creating, and battling your way through the game. When you go to the furthest limits of the surface world, you'll come across The Corruption, a swarming mass of demonic soil loaded with additional risk and extra rewards. You'll also come across demonic altars where you may forge rare materials that can be used to summon one of the game's three magnificent monsters. The multiplayer feature in Terraria is also a lot of fun. Depending on the people you play with, cooperatively exploring and creating with friends or strangers is even more fun than going solo.

Terraria improves on the traditional sandbox gameplay by putting a stronger focus on battle and exploration, which proves to be immensely rewarding. It stands out from the others because to unique features such as an incredibly comprehensive weapon creation system, a larger variety of creatures to fight, and a beautiful retro 2D aesthetic. Even merely shutting the game down long enough to write this review required all of my willpower. That is really uncommon.

So, here is the rating out of 5 (⭐) stars in my point of view:

Open world experience: ⭐ ⭐⭐ ⭐

Exploration and Adventure: ⭐ ⭐⭐ ⭐

Building and Crafting: ⭐ ⭐⭐ ⭐ ⭐

Blocky 2D Graphics: ⭐ ⭐

Hope you like the review and if you played it already comment below how was your experience 😊
