I am writing this post for the "Around The World" community.

Today, with the help of five photos and a small explanation to them, I want to tell you about my trip to Izborsk in May 2019.

Izborsk is a city in the northwest of Russia. Included in the TOP-5 of the oldest cities in Russia.

In the Middle Ages, Izborsk was of great strategic importance. Now it is a small village, living off tourists.

The main attraction of Izborsk is the fortress, built in the XIV century.

Over the years of its existence, the fortress has withstood many sieges and has survived to this day. Now it is a monument of military architecture of Ancient Russia and a museum.

Next to the fortress there is another attraction of Izborsk, created by nature itself - springs that flow directly from a sheer cliff. There are twelve such springs in total. They merge into a single river and flow into Lake Gorodishchenskoye.

Many legends are associated with these sources. So, according to one of these legends, in order to be healthy, rich, loved, you need to drink from all 12 sources. But some sources are very difficult to get to.

Gorodischenskoye lake is also very beautiful. Many swans live there.
