Movie Review: Get Out

INTRODUCTION

Hey guys, hope everyone in this community is doing ok; it's been a while.
I want to make a review on a movie I watched recently. Even though it's a 2017 movie, I only got to know about it recently through a friend's recommendation and I'm glad I watched the movie, Get Out.
This movie was initially released in Canada on February 2017 and had a budget estimation of $4.5million dollars.
Some of the main characters in Get Out include Daniel Kaluuya(as Chris), Allison Williams (as Rose), Bradley Whitford(as Dean, father of Rose and Jeremy and husband of Missy), Katherine Keener (as Missy), Lil Rel Howrey(as Rod) and Caleb Jones(as Jeremy).

Get out is a movie full of suspense, thrills and a little horror; it's really intense. I'm not sure I blinked when watching, you just don't wanna miss any part.

A LITTLE ABOUT THE MOVIE

So the movie is basically about a racist white family(Armitage family) and a group who abduct black folks. They had their reasons for this. Some were fascinated by the raw strength and stature of black people, some took them as sex slaves and so on.
What happens is, this group is something like a cult or spiritual something(I don't really know). Whenever any of them got old or got any defects, they resorted to abducting black people and taking over their bodies by putting their brains in the captured person's head. So by doing this, they have like 99% consciousness of the black person's body and the one captured has like 1% and is said to be in the "sunken place", a place where you have a little consciousness but no control over the body anymore.

This movie will make your hair raise as every ominous scene moves by.
The family who started all this was completely obliterated by one guy, one black guy who was smart enough to overcome their tricks.
So it's about Chris(black guy) and his white girlfriend Rose. Rose decided to let Chris meet her family (the lair of the cult group). Unknowing to Chris, his girlfriend was part of the cult but that's only revealed in the latter part of the movie.
So they went to the family house and Chris found some two black people, a male and female working as servants in the house. They were so not cool.

Initially, Chris had been warned by his friend Rod not to go there but you know what love does to us, right?
So they got to the house, everything seemed fine but Chris wasn't really comfortable due to some of the actions of Rose's brother Jeremy.
Chris had a smoking addiction; Missy told him she would help him get rid of it( a total lie anyway).
Eventhough he got rid of the addiction after the meeting, that wasn't the main focus of it. He got hypnotized and weakened by the woman, just from the clink sound of her metal tablespoon on the edge of her tea cup.

This was stage one, to make the prey or victim succumb to their subsequent operations.
There was an annual get-together of the cult group which introduced Chris to quite a couple of weird and uncomfortable things which made him want to leave.
As he was trying to leave with Rose, that's when he found out about the whole truth.

These people were like immortals. He found an album of Rose(I think they put it there on a purpose for victims to realise what they're really into, there was no turning back at that point anyway) and saw plenty photos of her and other black people including the servants at the house. And the scary thing is that, Rose was the same in all the pics.. no aging or anything of that sort.
He got hypnotized again by that sound when he tried to leave the house.
He woke up tied up in a room; he got enlightened about what going on in a documentary he watched; the purpose of everything . And also got explanations from a blind artist who wanted to take over his body, for his eyes.

All this while Chris' friend, Rod was searching for him, sensing something wasnt right. He filed missing reports but they found his story ridiculous so he found his own way.

Chris found a way to trick them into thinking he had been hypnotized by the clinking sound by stuffing his ear with cotton.
When it was time for him to be taken for the neurosurgery, he killed Jeremy. He killed their dad too,Dean. And went on to kill Missy.
He tried to flee only to be distracted by the female servant (who was now revealed as Roman Armitage's wife, they actually started the whole thing).

She died from a crash after she tried to hurt Chris. Chris got out to flee only to be attacked by Roman Armitage himself, in the form of the other male servant. Chris used a technique he had learned about to bring the guy's mind back to his senses temporarily who later turned on Rose and shot her, then killed himself to prevent further destruction.
Rod came to find Chris in pain and took him in the car and moved away.

CONCLUSION

I got mad at the last scene though. Chris didn't finish Rose off, she didn't die from the shot she got. He should've finished her off to make her feel the pain she had caused him. But he left her to die, that's better to(suffer and die)
So that's the movie, yeah.
It's suspenseful like I said, I watched it twice. You watch it the first time and you realise how good they all are at playing their roles.
In my own view, the movie was very good, perhaps excellent. The acting, the edits and everything were spot on! I'd give it an 8.9 rating if I was asked; it was satisfying, to be honest. I hope you watch; there's no doubt you'll like it if you do watch it
