"Photos of feathered friends" week 1: Jerry the Creole Canary

The saffron-crested stork (Sicalis flaveola) is a species of passerine bird of the family Thraupidae belonging to the genus Sicalis. It is widespread throughout much of South America (except in the Amazon basin, Patagonia and Andean altitudes).

It is distributed in three separate populations, one in northern Colombia, Venezuela and Trinidad and Tobago (the situation in the Guianas is undetermined); a second in western Ecuador and northwestern Peru; and the largest area ranging from northeastern Brazil, south of Amazonia, westward to the Andes Mountains of western Bolivia and southward to Uruguay and northern Patagonia in Argentina. It has been introduced in Chile, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Panama, Hawaii, Cayman Islands, in the Lima region of Peru, in southeastern Venezuela and northern Brazil (Roraima), in western Amazonian Brazil.🔗.

_ "Jerry" our little and perfect little bird_

Jerry appeared one morning in my backyard. The cats were threatening to eat him, so my friend took him, we consulted with a vet who told us what to do and what not to do. Fortunately he is a fully feathered canary ready to fly, his parents never came to claim him, which makes us think that Jerry is now of age to fly on his own and in his attempt, he fell to the ground where he became completely disoriented. After all, it's a whole different world.

Since that day we feed him rice, grains and fruit pulp. He is very playful and determined! If we get too close to his territory, he inflates his chest and "topknot" in order to look bigger, which is very funny because he is very small 🤭.
