Monuments and sculptures of my City - Francisco de Miranda

Few characters more worthy of the fervent and recognized population than this Venezuelan with a complex individuality and rich in cultures and grandiose dreams. A man of fascinating presence and fiery speech that captivated the most eminent men of the time. Francisco de Miranda embodies the visionary and magnanimous man who does not hesitate to go as far as sacrifice in the realization of his ideal. For long years the Committee worked, chaired by Mr. A. Cadré, in charge of carrying out the current tribute, effectively seconded by the French Legation in Caracas, until he completed his attempt, in a truly splendid way.

The great Venezuelan sculptor Lorenzo González (1877-1948), modeled and cast a pedestrian statue of Generalissimo Francisco de Miranda in 1930 to commemorate the Battle of Valmy (France), also known as the Valmy Cannonade, which took place on 20 September 1792, during the French Revolutionary Wars, in northern France.

Francisco de Miranda played an important role in the battle, which is why in 1930 Lorenzo González was commissioned for this piece. The statue, donated by the Government of Benemérito General Juan Vicente Gómez and the French and Syrian-Lebanese colonies of Venezuela, stands in front of that of General Kellerman in Campo de Valmy. Several copies of the statue conceived by Lorenzo González and erected in Valmy (France) have been made and are erected in various cities: Philadelphia, Sao Paulo, Paris, Saint Petersburg, Havana and Venezuela (two in Caracas and one in La Choir candle).

The sculpture represents Generalissimo Francisco de Miranda during the cannonade of Valmy, who fought as a Field Marshal in the service of the French Revolution under the orders of Charles François Dumouriez. Miranda appears taking a step forward and drawing the sword
