Object Of The Week Contest #31 - Dangerous Street Lights?

in SteemitContest2 years ago (edited)

Peace to one and all. We are fortunate to still have this exciting contest up and running for us to join in. This is the Object Of The Week Contest #31 hosted by the brave and resilient @strecoza. Do join us in this fun challenge. Read up all about it in the link here. Hoping to see you participating in the future.

The object for this week is:

STREET LIGHTS

I was walking one of our subdivision streets this afternoon when I suddenly remembered this contest. I started to look up to check the street lights and I captured this image. It's a typical street light found in most parts of my country.

It could be a bit of a shock to those of you who come from western and industrialized countries to find so many electrical wires running through the electric post. In fact you could even say this is a fire hazard. But despite how dangerous it looks, it is actually quite safe. I have been living in our subdivision for over 20 years now and not a single fire caused by electrical wire malfunctioning has ever occurred.

I also decided to take the photo during the daytime because at night, with lights glare, these wires will be difficult to see.

Here's another photo of the same street light. As you can see there is a tree beside the post which is even taller. That is a coconut tree. And the wires can even be seen more clearly crisscrossing the electric post.

You may wonder why so many lines. Well, those are not all electric lines. Most of these are actually telephone, internet, cable tv wires that are attached to the post. And everytime there is an upgrade on the cables such as new optic or fiber cables, they are added to the ones already there. The older ones could also not be taken down because some subscribers do not upgrade their connections so will still need to use the old ones.

Here are some other street lights I took on this cloudy afternoon walk I took around our subdivision.

No coconut tree. This time mango trees around the electric post. Not so much wires running around the post in the photo above. Not much internet and phone cable subscribers in this street.

Here are some daintier ones though they are not from the utility company. They were installed by the owner of the property to light the surrounding area.

And that's it for this one. Thanks for dropping in. Good luck to all participants. Keep safe everyone especially our host @strecoza. I pray everyday for you and your brave country. May victory be yours and peace reign again in your beautiful country.
