We call them Saskatoon berries, which is the same name as my city. We make jam, wine, pies and all sorts of things with them.
We also use them as a first row in our shelter belts.
If you put a net over them, the birds can't get them.
I have planted many dozens of saskatoon trees--and many different varieties. I am waiting for them to grow big enough to produce berries, which will likely be next year.
We put a net on honeysuckle, on strawberries, sometimes on cherries.
