Greetings to the community PH I hope you are well and with health I wish you a good Christmas, since it is a writing contest I will give my point of view on this sentence, I hope you like the article.
" Education makes machines that act like men and produces men who act like machines." Erich Fromm
I am going to divide this sentence into two parts.
first part:
"Education makes machines that act like men"
Today we have AI (artificial intelligence) that describes well the capacity of man with a correct education to create machines that facilitate life in all possible ways, with education as a pillar of society it becomes possible to achieve goals beyond the current imagination, from my point of view I believe that a human being without the right amount of education is an easy prey to communist ideologies that provide a utopian vision of life. where the poverty generated by the bad policies of the rulers is the fault of the citizen for not being a good person, Without education people tend to believe in "supreme leaders" like dictators who only seek power and to achieve their macabre goals need to make education a public enemy to be fought.
second part:
"produces men who act like machines"
In this part of the sentence Mr. Fromm tries to mix education with people who have no principles, this kind of person who is not able to differentiate between things that are right and things that are wrong just follows the orders of his superiors does not question the morality of that order basically biological machines in the service of a ruling elite. But what Mr. "Fromm" does not say in his sentence is that countries where education is of poor quality is where these people abound in my country are called "people with social resentments".
in conclusion
education is fundamental to the progress of humanity without education it is easy for the pillars of society to collapse giving way to totalitarian regimes that take advantage of two things, the first is the ignorance of people who do not question the social order and the second is the human condition that turns us into emotional beings that are manipulated using as a decoy an external enemy and an internal one that will be guilty of all the bad things that happen in society.

Education is the way out of ignorant
Basically using education as a way out is the wisest thing a person can do if they are in crisis.

Education is an important factor, but I think it is necessary be curious, investigate, question things before accept any proposal. The thought critical is achieved by reading, inquiring and so on we avoid becoming automata that follow doctrines.

Very good vision for your analysis of the sentence, no doubt education influences in a decisive way the power that political actors can influence on the citizens, taking advantage of this to be able to install dictatorships or regimes that only try to take freedom from the people for their benefit.
Hello @trabajosdelsiglo I share the idea that education is the guarantor that keeps a society afloat, now I doubt that the lack of education is the cause that we are bent by a totalitarian regime as you express it, from my point of view it is the edealista approach that the current leaders have used and that has served to keep a large number of followers beyond the fatal conditions in which we live. Just like you say, education is important and fundamental to the growth of humanity and even human personal development.
One thing I have realised is that if one missed out on education, definitely he or she is going to be a prey that will suffer of it in the future because the direction the world is heading to, I don't see any future reasonable place for any uneducated person in the future that's why one must take education seriously. Though few realise this and they always take this with levity which is quite bad.
Education has always been a vital side to life, the problem is condemning education to only be acquired within the four walls of a school, education on its own shouldn't end it should always be acquired by anyone and everyone.

Certainly, any badly educated people, and I don't mean with a lack of academic education, but with an education with bad principles is easily victim of manipulations
Education doesn't make intelligent people. This is something that I have learnt from my years in school. Through education, you learn about concepts but if you can't apply them or use them for something useful, then it was just a waste of time.
