Practicing Delaying Gratification
This is one of the things that most people frown at - nobody wants to wait anymore, they want what they want right now - instantly. But that's not how the world works, good things take time to unfold, and those who lack patience tend to always miss it.
As a result, you need to practice delaying gratification. Only little children throw tantrums when they can't get what they want exactly when they want it. But as an adult, you should understand the natural laws of the universe and learn to reward yourself only after the work is done.
There was a study done with little children, and the study was about knowing which the little children will delay their gratification. The study was simple - they'll call a child into a room, and ask him to eat one delicious looking cake. But if he waits for 20 mins - he'll get two more of that cake.
The results of the research found that only about 2 out of 10 children, could resist the urge for instant gratification. And only those few got extra delicious cakes. And the research, continued for many years studying how the lives of these children turned out in the future.
And as you can guess - the few children who understood how to delay gratification, in order to get more - became by far more successful than the rest. Hence, there are many correlations between achieving success and delaying gratification - and that's why it's worth practicing.
The urge for immediate gratification is what's making many people lose sight of a more promising outcome. Nice read.
