MODERN THEFT: PLAGIARISM

in Project HOPE4 years ago

Greetings to project-hope. I am a psychologist from Turkey.

What does plagiarism lead to? Why is plagiarism important?

One of the most popular examples of plagiarism was Melania Trump's speech, similar to Michelle Obama's speech. Even if the alternative of each word is used, there are applications that identify plagiarism. Melania's copied speech later humiliated the entire Trump family. What's wrong with that, you might say? In the information age, the labor and profit algorithm is developing gradually. It would be appropriate to say the insurance of human labor. In my opinion, this is what makes Steem a niche.

Plagiarism can lead to the loss of what you have earned, or even more, even after years. Turkey attracted a lot of suffering in this regard. A terrorist organization that uses religion has placed its own followers in state institutions over the years. Academicians for universities, officers for the army, politicians for politics…

Thankfully, it was not too late when the state noticed this terrorist organization and decided to take action.

What has this terrorist organization done? Previously it was thought that they only stole exam questions. They stole the exam questions of important institutions and gave them to their own disciples. Later it was realized that they had plagiarized in countless areas, from the script of the TV series to their academic sources. No one noticed the danger because they placed their own men as supervisors.

What happened next? In 2016, this terrorist organization, attempted to carry out a military coup in Turkey. Plagiarism was just one of the weapons they used to grow up.

In Turkey and in the world, criticisms and discussions about this incident continues. It is thought that there is not enough evidence. But there is a fact that nobody argues: plagiarism is much more dangerous than it seems.

What can we do?

1) Be a role model for citing. Tell those around you the importance of referencing.

2)Pay attention and warn politely when you come across with plagiarism. There also may be a misunderstanding. It's easy to break a heart but hard to atone.

3) Report to competent authority. If we are sure about plagiarism and if the warnings not enough we should blow the whistle on.

Why did I choose such a marginal example? Many people, including those around me, ask why plagiarism is so exaggerated. The example that best describes a phenomenon is marginal examples. When grading my students for their final report, I make sure they don't plagiarize.

Because plagiarism is theft. Theft is a crime.

Hello @seyitsaygin this is a bunch of wonderful information, plagiarism is very wrong and should be avoided completely.

Absolutely. No culture tolerates theft. Plagiarism rates in direct proportion to education level. Thus, as plagiarism is ignored, the quality of education decreases. As a result, the relationship between plagiarism and education turns into a vicious circle. The word for plagiarism is not very common in Turkish. I don't know if you believe it, but even university students are far from the concept of plagiarism. When we give an article assignment on any subject, what we encounter is an example of poor quality copy and paste. This situation reminds me of the song "sad but true" by metallica :)
