Remove Competition-Mentality And Enjoy The Moment

in Project HOPElast year

Everyone came to this world individually with dissimilar purpose, aim, goal, aspirations, and whatnot, so you should not see others as being in competition with you. Of course, the sky can accommodate as many birds as possible without any bird feeling to be in competition with another bird. If there is someone you should be in competition with, then it should be who you were yesterday. With the infinite and endless possibilities that are in the world, it will be very weird to bring yourself to be in competition with someone else. What someone else may see as a destination or an achievement, might just be a passage for you.

When you bring yourself to be in competition with someone else, you place a limitation to what you can achieve. This is because the person's achievement will become a standard for you to measure your own, and your path will become modelled after theirs. It is funny how, in this era, a lot of people put themselves into undue pressure by what they see on social media, and they think that they are in competition with others over material things. What many of them do not understand is that some of these lifestyles that are flaunted on social media might just be a unreal lifestyle.

Now if you decide to bring yourself into competition with someone with fake lifestyle, you may end up doing a lot of harm to your pocket. Sometimes, what you know about their lifestyle is what they actually want you to, and it may just be their area of strength, while they conceal their weaknesses. If you compete with them, you may just be competition with your own weakness against their strengths, and you will think you are not doing well in life. If you want to know how blessed you are and how well you are doing, remove competition from your mentality and look at where you are now, then compare it with where you used to be. You should be your own competitor, not someone else.

There are many things to live for in the moment than wasting your time competing with someone that may not even know that you are in competition with them. Everyone has their own different track that they run on, and if you leave your own and enter into someone else's own, it may bring difficulties. Imagine Hussein Bolt seeing Cristiano Ronaldo as his competitor and leaving his racing championship to enter football, he will struggle with little results. But in racing, he will do well because that is what he was built for, not football.

A lot of difficulties that people face is because they gave in to pressures of competition. Instead of seeing someone as your competitor, it is better to see them as a motivator or inspiration for you to work on yourself to be the best version of yourself. Trust me, at the end of the day, life will not ask you how many people you beat their records, but did you get better yourself? It is worthy to note that if you beat someone's high-score but have not beaten your own personal best, then you have not made progress. Progress is basically measured on how you have become better, not whose records you have beaten. So it will do you more good to focus more on how to get better, instead of trying to align into the standards of someone else.

In life, where a fast runner got to, the walker can also get to it with time, as long as he is not distracted and he keeps going. Nothing distracts one like competition. More so, unwholesome competition can breed jealous and envy, especially when you feel that the other person is achieving more than you, but you have not taken time to recount how blessed you are and the achievements you have. I will conclude with this popular wise saying from this part of the world:

If you want to become like someone else, you will become a photocopy.

Well, you are right about us enjoying the simple pleasure of life, however, competition also gives us this rush and drive in life

That's correct. Even if we are to consider competition, it should be a healthy one.

Thanks buddy

Hello @samminator!
I think that every day we have to work to be our best version and as you say in the post follow someone else as a source of motivation and not try to compete with the rest of the people but it brings us positive things. Thanks for sharing

That's right. Thanks for coming around buddy.
