I think censoring in general is a good thing, but some people think they have right to decide what falls in freedom of speech or freedom of press and what doesn't.
I think only criminal courts should have right to decide what content should be censored and only if it is against law of the country where the content was published. In many cases things are illegal for example in United States or some European Union member states, but not in country hosting the content, but still get censored.
I find censoring so hard, and especially when you don't trust the leadership deciding about what is to be censored and not. And that is why, many people will never trust censorship that is decided and set by criminal law in Europe or in the United States, simply because they will claim that it is paid for by big companies in order for them to get more profit. But, it is a fact that we need censorship in some way.
Censoring and moderating on internet is especially hard as a lot of people will just move the discussion elsewhere and trash the reputation of the people censoring and moderating even though the people are required by law to moderate content...
Without moderating content, in almost all countries except United States, the person hosting the website or administering the chatroom is legally responsible for the content even if posted by someone else.
It doesn't even matter if the content is encrypted or encoded in way that doesn't allow the moderator to see the content.
