This really comes as a wake up call to those of us that perhaps without realizing it are going the way you mention, like we allow the current to carry us away.

And the observation that "if you don't use yourself for your own benefit, someone is going to use you for their own" is really amazing. I think only the really assertive thoughtful people realize this.
