The uses of artificial intelligence are endless.
Last important news in this period of pandemic is certainly the ability to diagnose the coronavirus even in asymptomatic people.

Today we know how essential it is to recognize covid positive people who do not show the symptoms of the virus, so without their knowledge they can have a high viral load and spread the coronavirus.

But how to recognize positive asymptomatics from those who are healthy?

Through the way they cough!
Coughing is not the same for everyone, it has been discovered by researchers at MIT, Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston that healthy and asymptomatic individuals cough differently and that the human ear cannot recognize, while artificial intelligence can detect it 100%.

The MIT researchers came to this conclusion after making tens of thousands of cough recordings on a volunteer sample of people, finding 98.5% coughs of people with covid and 100% coughs of asymptomatic people who subsequently are tested positive after swabbing.

The study of this extraordinary algorithm was published in the IEEE Journal of Engineering in Medicine and Biology and has every air of being able to overturn the systems used to date to identify SarsCov2 positive people.

The next step is the development of an easy-to-use application as a prescreening tool to identify asymptomatic patients before swabbing, thus avoiding swabing at all and this would lead to savings in terms of money and time.

The next step is to develop an easy-to-use application as a prescreening tool to identify asymptomatics before swabbing, thus avoiding to swab everyone without distinction and this would lead to savings in economic terms and time.

The researchers' idea is to be able in the future to develop a system that even allows us to use our smartphones to understand what kind of cough it treats and to promptly intervene on the patient avoiding going out and creating crowds.
A mass screening that would allow people to carry out daily checks directly at home, to find out in real time if they risk having contracted the virus and if they have to undergo the diagnostic swab and consequently this could slow the spread of the pandemic.

But artificial intelligence is also able to find the genetic signature of the new coronavirus and this emerges from the study of 2 computer engineers from the Computer Science Department of the University of Salerno, Italy.
Their algorithm has been tested to analyze 5000 Sars-CoV-2 genomes from all over the world and can recognize 99.35% of genomes.
The algorithms are able to find the common denominator among many different genomes of the new coronavirus, despite the continuous mutations.
The goal of the research is to make the algorithm data available to the microbiologists of the University of Salerno so that they can create an antiviral effective against all strains of the virus.

Artificial intelligence allows the development of a technological management of the pandemic.
The problem is that it requires an updated, digitalized and 4.0 healthcare and unfortunately the healthcare of the whole world has shown that it is not up to managing a global pandemic.
We hope in the future and that it will arrive as soon as possible.
