Let's look at society in the future for a moment

in Project HOPE4 years ago

I have seen a graph that has made me think about the way in which a difficult situation can affect the birth rate, and seeing in the future the thousands of ways in which this can affect social organization, the economy, health services, practically everything.

The University of Washington has recently conducted a study in which it published this graph that I bring below, in which you can see a projection of the birth rate in the year 2100. It seems like a long time, and it is even possible that by that date most of those who are reading this publication (including me) will not even be alive, but, the population pyramid will be (according to this study) totally inverted.

That is to say, the population in general would be composed of elderly people, who to a large extent cannot be in the productive force, this will already imply a great difference with respect to the reality as we know it now.

I ask myself: How will this be done to maintain a population mass that is basically made up of elderly people?

All of us, or at least we hope so, will reach old age, and we will also be able to enjoy that specific moment in our lives, but it is possible to think that it will happen in about 80 or more years if this reality, as stated in this study, is what really happens.

The conditions of life, as we can live them at present, are changing, and as technology advances all these changes are greater and greater, and much faster. Let us bear in mind that so far this century there has been an emergence of information that far exceeds that originating in previous centuries, and this is thanks to the Internet, robotics, process automation, among other things, and will be increasingly consolidated these advances. There is talk of the 5G internet, of the internet of things, of the advances of Artificial Intelligence, but the social cannot be put aside, we must create the mechanisms to live with technology, which does not surpass us, otherwise, the world could be directed towards something that we could conceive of until it is too late, without being fatalistic.

It all seems to be very much related to birth control, which is now much easier to take. In most countries women have every right to decide whether or not they want children, and how many. A reality that was not present a few decades ago, when even studying was difficult for them. But, things have changed, they have fought to have their rights and they are exercising them.

In particular, I think it is an important point within human development, and the way the world is being transformed. This implies a lot of questions to work on in terms of future solutions. A future that could change, of course, those are just prognoses, which may be as well as they may not be. But, it was inevitable to think about it when reading this chart.

Will the robots and artificial intelligence be doing the work?

How will the states be maintained if tax revenues are decreased? Obviously, another social and economic structure must be considered.

Will there be states as we know them today? There are many questions and few answers that I have now.

I don't know if times will be better or worse in the future than they are now, but I know they will be different, that technology will be implicit in all areas of life.

AND WHAT DO YOU THINK WILL HAPPEN?

For one reason i think the future will sort itself out, we have a couple of fears and somehow we feel things will get messy in the near future, though that might be the case, but I'm optimistic.

If we see how the world has become more complicated in terms of technological progress, we could say that everything will get worse. But I am also optimistic, I hope that this is not the case, and that the tendency is rather to improve.

Maybe science will lengthen life and we are alive to see it, I think there will be an overpopulation, that graph I see for developed countries more than everything

Underdeveloped countries have a tendency to reverse the population pyramid.
It is possible that this is the case.

Well I think that we will have implants that will prolong our life for the predictions that that graph shows, everything indicates that many more births will not be needed what is obvious to me in a society with AI and robots, in addition of humans with cybernetic implants w will prolong your life, co artificial livers, indestructible lungs, bionic eyes and other things, well at least I see the future like this, we will be old yes, but we will be something like that with the "ancients" from the Stargate Atlantis series, beings with a lot of technology and very wise, practically immortal or very long-lived

A world of robots rather than humans... or half robots... That's interesting. Heh heh heh.
A bit of a strange sighting.

Will the robots and artificial intelligence be doing the work?

I wanted to say so before I got to this part of the post, at that point it will then become evident and necessary to have machines and robots carry out the task completely.

It's possible. It's the safest thing.
But you have to be prepared to adapt, there's no other way.

Maybe in a few years we'll be living with the robots hehehe... In many countries the elderly population is the predominant one, something that I don't think is bad, nowadays we are over saturated and I think that if it is possible to reach that moment of relative tranquility, where there is less overpopulation. Obviously this is a problem for future generations but as you say it is up to each individual to decide.

Yes. Of course, in the end it's up to us to continue living and adapting to everyday reality.

It is very interesting to make a projection about our future as humanity, above all considering the technological advances that are taking place at present. I believe that in some aspects it will be possible to make good approaches to a future reality and perhaps for other cases it will be possible to get right about our future based on technological advances. An excellent post that invites us to reflect and predict our future. Greetings

Yeah, they're just projections, which may or may not be a reality.
But, it's interesting to do these reflection exercises.

A future filled with old people doesn't sound too nice, what then happens to the idea of leaders of tomorrow? That means there might be no tomorrow for humans then.

That's why I bring this subject up for discussion.
Because the truth is that I found that point of view very particular in this study.
Those are prognoses, of course, not an absolute truth in relation to reality.

Talking about society is always interesting and challenging (especially in difficult times like this involving the pandemic) because the behavior of the human race is very volatile and diverse.

Society, seeing it as a whole could be very challenging, I think in a way that's why it tends to be divided, in order to facilitate the object of study and try to understand it. But it's certainly quite complex.
