Is the dream of being an influencer leaving aside university education? A reflection on the economic future

in Project HOPE28 days ago

Hello friends of Project HOPE, I hope you are all well, today I would like to share an opinion in relation to a trend that I see increasingly accentuated, and that is the fact that in general terms young people are increasingly choosing less for university studies, and they have a greater tendency to head into the labor market at once but digitally, and above all as "Influencers", and I think that in the medium and long term this could have a considerable impact on what which is the global economy, and of each particular country in which young people study less and less.

It is a reality, in today's digital age, many young people are choosing to focus on being influencers on social networks, seeing this as a viable and lucrative career. However, this change in focus is leading a growing number of students to abandon or postpone their university studies. This trend, at least as I see it, raises important questions for us about the possible repercussions on the economy of the future.

Being an influencer may seem like an attractive career. With the promise of high income, recognition and the opportunity to work from anywhere in the world, it is not surprising that many young people are attracted to this avenue of work. Additionally, platforms like Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok offer opportunities to monetize content and reach massive audiences. However, the reality is that only a small percentage of influencers manage to achieve significant financial success. Competition is very tough and long-term economic stability is not guaranteed.

Abandoning university studies in favor of trying to be an influencer can have several economic repercussions in the future, and I would like to share what I believe about it:

  • First, a decline in the number of college graduates could negatively impact the skilled workforce. Modern economies depend on highly trained professionals in fields such as engineering, medicine, education and technology. If fewer young people pursue these careers, we could face a shortage of skilled workers in very important sectors.

Importantly, and I say this from my own experience, a university education not only provides technical knowledge, but also fosters critical skills such as analytical thinking, problem solving and effective communication. These skills are essential in almost any field of work and contribute to a strong and adaptable economy. Lack of formal education can limit employment opportunities for those who fail to become successful influencers, which could result in increased unemployment and underemployment.

Another thing that I consider is very important is the impact on innovation. Universities are research and development centers, where new technologies are created and scientific advances are made. Decreases in university enrollment and graduation may result in less innovation, which could slow technological progress and affect global economic competitiveness.

I think it is important to achieve that balance between the formal academic and what is translated into the digital, because if not, we will have an increasingly less educated world, despite the large amount of information that exists today at our fingertips. everything, but with few minds that have the necessary knowledge for the economy to prosper as it has done until now. Of course, this leaves the field open to Artificial Intelligence and its implementation in all fields of the modern economy... this is another interesting topic, of course. I would like to know what you think about it, greetings.

I agree with your conclusions.

Thank you for the comment. Unfortunately, it's a reality, something I have been observing for a long time.
