Network Firewall

in Project HOPElast month
Greeting everyone @i-am-ejaaz from #Pakistan

Today I am going to discuss firewalls. So first of all, understand it by its definition: “A firewall is a network security device that monitors incoming and outgoing network traffic and decides whether to allow or block specific traffic based on a defined set of security rules.”

A simple and very basic example of a firewall is the Windows firewall, which is auto-installed software on our Windows OS computer devices that protects our computer devices from unauthorized access and malware. If any malware is attacked on our computer or suspcios activity is noticed, it is urgently informed to us.

Firewalls are mostly used in network systems for security. Then we can restrict access in different ways. A firewall can block a specific website domain, like steemit.com. It will not process the requests that are made for accessing steemit.com.

Similarly, it can block IP addresses; if it blocks some specific region IP addresses, then the people of that region cannot access the resources. For example, if steemit.com activates a firewall to protect the platform from Pakistani users, it can be achieved by activating the firewall and blocking the IP address of Pakistan.

It can also block different types of content. For example, if a university has a very slow internet connection and students mostly use it to load multimedia files, then I can reduce network speed more. In this way, they can block media file access to optimize network speed.

It can be used to block protocol because on the internet, every request is made using a special protocol, so it can block requests that have a specific protocol. It can be used in different ways according to needs and rules.
