Becoming Great At What You're Good At

Let me start by saying, it's easier to move up from grade 'C' to grade 'A', than to move up from grade 'F' to grade 'A'. It's even so, more easy to move from grade 'B' to grade 'A'. This is a simple fact. It's the reality. The question now is why would you want to get into a business or a field or career path where you are a grade 'F' at. Hoping that with hard work you'll become exceptional. That's far from been realistic. When you could easily focus on something that you're a grade 'B' at.

Getting to adult life, you start to realize what reality truly is. And you start to notice that every field you turn to, there are people who are good at what they're doing. How can you compete, with someone who is naturally good at something, while you are naturally not good at that thing, perhaps with endless hours of practice, you're pushing yourself up from bad, to average. In this competitive world, you want to be having the comparative advantage.

You can't focus on your weakness. Doing everything possible to make your weakness turn to your strength. Taking time out to properly figure out what you're a grade 'B' at, is becoming very important in these times. Working very hard on that thing that you're good at, you'll see that in no long time, you'll become exceptional at it. You'll be able to stand out in this competitive world, you'll be able to be a figure to reckon with in your line of business.

You must realize that you can't do everything. You are just one individual, you can't divide yourself in pieces, you can't have more than 24 hours a day. If you attempt to do so many things, you'll only turn out to be a mediocre in all of those things. It has become important to think critically of that one thing that you're good at, and making all the necessary moves to have yourself in that field or business, if you truly what to achieve greatness.

We always have a choice. If you choose not to make a choice, that's already a choice. You must decide, and make a choice. The world doesn't celebrate mediocrity, it doesn't give awards to people that are average. I doubt you've ever seen an event where they give awards to middle class, it's always those at the very top. That's where you want to be. And honestly, it's unbelievably difficult to become great at something you're not naturally good at.

Sometimes, you do some things, just to make ends meet. If that's the case, you must make plans to make that big move to doing that thing you're really good at. We only have one life, you must invest your life into something that's what while. Something that you'll be celebrated in. Invariably, you'll still have to work hard to be exceptional, in whatever you do. It's just a lot easier to becoming exceptional at a thing you're already good at.

Hello @humor0404
I agree with you, we all are good at something that represents us and places us above average. If we take advantage of those talents and born skills, we can be able to be very succesful and excellent in that particular area. It’s important to know our abilites and limits to improve in what we are good at.
Greetings!

If we take advantage of those talents and born skills, we can be able to be very succesful and excellent in that particular area.

That's exactly the point. Focusing on that one thing or few things that you're very good at is the road to great success. Thanks for coming around!

This is a great point, and it is very similar to the 80/20 principle in which we learn that you spend 80% of your energy at the 20% you are the best at and where you earn the most, while you spend 20% of your energy on the remaining 80%.

Really like your way of writing, it is so easy to understand. You have got to be a good teacher (even if you don't teach)! :)

The 80/20 principle works in almost everything you can think of. And most people spend lots of energy on things they're not good at. It's difficult to be great at something you're good at. So you can only imagine how endlessly difficult it could be to become great at something you're grade 'F' at. The 80/20 principle is a fantastic one. Thanks for the compliment. And thanks for coming around. Lovely comment!

I actually see your point but a grade F can actually become a grade A but it will take time and lots of efforts. While going from grade B to A will be easier and faster doesn't mean F to A would be impossible. Nice piece

I never said that it was impossible to grow from grade 'F' to 'A'. I only said that it will be truly difficult, and in fact impossible for most people, as most people have a low tolerance for stress. It's possible but very difficult. Why not focus on what you're good at and become great at it. That's something more realistic and achievable. The tendency of becoming exceptional at something you're very bad at is really slim. Thanks for coming around!
