Time management has been a long time problem that almost all of us have been struggling with, whether you're an employee or an employer, or simply a domestic house wife. We all need to manage our time properly for us to maximize our days. As a result of this issue, there have been numerous research to find out if there are ways to help people better manage their time.

There are a number of methods to manage time, but in this post, let me share with you one that has been used by so many billionaires, including Bill Gates, Elon Musk. This is called time blocking. This method of time management requires that you break your day down into specific time ranges, for example 5 minutes block or 30 minutes blocks, depending on you.

How does this work? You have to set your time, let's take for example you want to be functioning on 30 minutes blocks. You structure your work such that you work on each tasks for exactly 30 minutes, then you switch to another task or take a short break. And start again.

What you must do is stop at exactly the time set. When you start, you must make sure that when it reaches the 30 minutes, you stop that tasks no matter how interesting it's going. You switch to something else, and work rigorously on it too for another 30 minutes. And probably, you return back to continue your initial task from where you left it, or you move to a third task.

The idea of this is to ensure that you don't get so tied up to a particular task, and allocate way too much time to it. When you know you have just 30 minutes to work on that task, your focus is very high, and you tend to get a lot done within that timeframe, than you probably would have if you did not put a time limit.

This method of time management still corresponds with Parkinson's law of time, which explains that work will always expand to fit the time you allocate for it. A very powerful advantage of this method is that it keeps you excited with doing all your tasks, as sometimes, it gets boring to focus on just one task for too long.

It also makes it easier to get huge tasks done, because it's like slicing the tasks into bits. And you find it a lot easier to get into it and get it done bit by bit. Dividing your work is always a smart way to get a lot done. Also it helps you get a lot done, in many different areas. But what is most important in this method is for you to stop when the time limit you choose is reached. You shouldn't let yourself get carried way.

hello @greatideas,
this is an interesting topic because personally I am having problems with productivity, although I work a lot I can not be effective with time, now thanks to this information I understand where the problem is and how to solve it, thanks for the information I needed, I work by tasks but now I will work by tasks but with a time span that allows me to be more productive.

Well, depending on the task, some tasks must be finished before moving on to another. Blocking falls through here.

Time blocking is good especially in some task that we can time ourselves. I think it will be a good start for people who lack time management as it will instill discipline in them and in general helping us to avoid giving preferences to some task.

Very interesting technique for time management friend @greatideas, I think that like many, efficient administration is sometimes one of my weaknesses, so this type of resource turns out to be very useful.
