Productivity is not Being Busy; (dealing with unproductive traits)

in Project HOPE4 years ago

Have you at a point felt less productive, felling all fatigue and looking tired all the time? This things having to a lot of people and ¾ of everyone I meet say they feel unproductive and overwhelmed that they can’t carry out a lot of tasks properly and end up doing nothing at the end of the day. I guess this number increased with the coronavirus lockdown and social distancing that is implemented which has made people work from home. It is no doubt that working from home can be very distracting, having kids running around, pets creating a distraction and so on.

Humans are easily distracted normally and it takes a lot of eye muscles and brain stress to refocus every now and then, so normally we get distracted even when there are no people there but with the working from home, a lot of people have gotten into a less productive mode and one thing they want is a solution to this mode.

Re-organize yourself and place of work

Either you are working from home or in your office and you find it hard to focus because you get distracted easily making you become less productive, one thing you have to do is reorganize your work space. You could change the location if you can change locations but if you can, then it is better to arrange the workplace again. We tend to work better in a new environment or clean environment, seeing things looking different than working from a place for a very long time making it look boring.

Clear your head of thoughts

If you want to start doing anything and you want to be productive with it, then you need to make your brain understand that it is the only thing to face. You need to clear your mind off what you will be eating, your relationship, your next activity, and previous ones and so on. If you have a clouded mind, then you have a clouded head and a clouded head will not give you any progress.

Always Get a Break

Your brain isn’t a machine and even machines break down. If you work for a very long time, your brain neurons start to close up on logical thought process and instead move to a reactive mode where everything gets you on the wrong side and you can’t find solutions for even the simplest of things. At this point, you need take a break. Taking a break will do you all the best.

Make sure you’re Productive and not just Busy

It is a different thing to work all day and achieve nothing and to work for an hour to achieve great deeds, when you pick up calls, chat, and do other things at the same time while working is busy, it makes you overwhelmed, and tired but when you are productive, it makes you feel accomplished. Instead of doing everything at the same time, face one thing at a time according to necessity so you can feel accomplished and not fatigue.

On a final note

When working on a daily basis, it is best to accomplish your goals by taking them one step at a time no matter how little the steps are. You are more fulfilled and less fatigue when you are productive then when you are busy.

I totally agree, nothing like being a productive person, many believe that people who do many things at once are the most productive of all and as you say, that's not the reality, we can do many things but perhaps not do them as well as possible and not feel productive. I'm working from home for now and it's true that sometimes you get very distracted, usually I'm very organized but it has happened to me, for that reason I made a plan or an organizational chart, where I put what I'm going to do during the whole month and the hours of it, obviously with my time of rest and recreation!
