I am not really used to VPN's but I noticed this google issue you raised also whenever I try to use it, there is a VPN type that works for everyone and it also depends on the location.
Yeah, some servers are easily recognized by Google, and using such, you will get all sorts of captcha tasks before submitting your search requests... that can be really annoying and quite time consuming.
