The bottom line, let people ask for you.

Creating demand for yourself inside and outside of your current working group is one of the most sustainable ways to get people to praise you, which eventually makes it to your boss's ear. The more they praise you, the higher demand you have, the more your price goes up.

Be Nice, Help and Learn.

Three work ethics that might encourage your coworkers to praise you:

Be nice to everyone.

  • From saying “Good Morning” to Joe in the hallway, to congratulating Jen on her recent promotion; just a few words in passing can mean a great deal to people, and your reputation of being nice. And, it makes you feel great while doing it.

Offer to help others.

  • When you're nice to others, they like being around you, and are more inclined to accept your offer to help. And they may even ask you for assistance.
  • Taking 5 minutes to help Sally unfreeze Microsoft Outlook can build a ton of rapport. And if Bob does not take your offer right away, he might in the future, for something different.
  • Offering to help is letting your coworkers know that you're available to help them with something that's important to them. Make sure you have at least 20% free bandwidth at all times, because when they eventually ask for your help, you have the capacity to help them. And it's definitely a bonus if you do it at their convenience and not yours.

Learn new things.

  • When you offer to help others, it eventually leads to you learning new things. Learning new disciplines in your business broadens your skill-set and that is great for helping more people get things done.

In Conclusion:

Eventually, word gets out that you're the person that's nice to be around. You're the person that helps. And you're the person that gets things done.

When people feel that way about you, it makes them more inclined to praise you to your boss. That creates an external demand for not only your work, but also your presence at work. This is great for job security, and it could lead to your boss throwing more money at you in the future.

Stay frosty people. Thanks for reading.

Dear @fijimermaid

I finally managed to put some time aside and catch up with previously bookmarked publications. Interesting choice of topic and solid read. Upvoted already :)

I've been self-employeed for several years now, so I kind of forgot what kind of mental struggle can it be to get a raise in our salaries.

Your advices may be helpful, but not if one is working online and all his collegues do that too. Wouldn't you agree?

Overall very good tips - definetly worth following?

Stay safe buddy

Being nice and a friendly attitude, always you earn more Good advices.

Sometimes you'll need to actually ask for a raise. best practice is to make sure you deserve a raise before asking for it. Some employers will underpay you provided you keep accepting the pay

“Some employers will underpay you provided you keep accepting the pay”

I think you nailed it @joelagbo. Hopefully the boss is observant enough to appreciate his/her employees' worth. But sometimes that doesn't happen. Then it comes down to you letting him/her know or finding another job (whether in the same company or not). And finding another job is hard, especially now.
