Doing What Is Right

in Project HOPE2 years ago

There are too many people who spend their time doing what is easy, instead of doing what is right. The issue is that doing what is right is never easy. You have to make a sacrifice of some sort, usually difficult and painful. But if you want a better future for your generation to come, doing what is right is usually better. So many people try to avoid it, but it ends up catching up with them.

Hence, instead of avoiding it, why don't you face it headlong? You have to understand that anything that is good and amazing in this life normally comes at a prize. You should be willing to pay that prize, so that you can get to levels that your peers can only dream of. People always like that short cut, the easy path. But from history books, we know that the short cut tends to lead to problems.

The truth is that, in most cases - our conscience tells us when we're doing something right, and when we're doing something wrong. As I mentioned earlier, doing the right thing is usually harder, so many people end up going for the easier option. Thus, doing the right thing is connected to your ability to withstand pain.

Let me give you an example. Assuming that you're a student, and your examinations are around the corner; if your friends are going out to have fun - it's a lot easier for you to go out with them, because that is easy. But within you, your mind pricks you, you know that you're supposed to stay back and study and prepare yourself for your coming examination - this is the right thing to do, but it's also the harder thing to do.

When you think about it deeply, you'll come to see that the easier thing tends to satisfy your immediate desire. The easier thing has only a very short term value, and is highly related to - pleasure. But doing the right thing, tends to have good long term effects. For example, going to have fun with friends have short term effects - pleasure. But studying and reading hard has long term benefits, as you'll be able to earn a good living in the future, if you work and study harder today.

Thanks for taking time to read.

Hi @devotedman Normally, doing something enjoyable triggers neurons, a type of brain cell, to release a chemical called dopamine. This release provokes that sensation of feeling good, it evokes the desire to repeat an action over and over again

Thanks for dropping by.

There are two circumstances that lead to arrogance: one is when you're wrong and you can't face it; the other is when you're right and nobody else can face it.
