The Mystery of Dark Matter in the Universe

Dark matter is one of the biggest enigmatic in contemporary science. Despite it constitutes a quarter of the total mass-energy of the universe, they remain invisible and undetectable. Dark matter, unlike normal matter cannot themselves emit, absorb or reflect light and therefore remain invisible to ordinary astronomical observations.

Scientists work with masses as evidence that they infer from the presence of other attractive bodies such as stars and galaxies. For example, galaxies spin at velocities greater than a mass that is comprehensible under light, therefore an extra component known as dark matter.

Although its form is not fully understood its possible make up could include particles such as Weakly Interacting Particles (WIMPS) or axions. It is still unknown to man, and experiments, which are being carried out at the present time in the underground detectors and particle accelerators, are to reveal it. Many people give credit to dark matter for some of the major aspects of the universe and solving this jigsaw may change our view.
