The James Webb Space Telescope | A New Era in Astronomy
The JWST is a novel type of facility that will extend the capability for astronomers. The James Webb Space Telescope, or JWST, began its mission in December 2021; it is set to look farther into the universe compared to any observer to date and consequently help astronomers study formations of stars and galaxies, analyze the atmospheres of extrasolar planets, and understand the evolution of the solar system.
Another advantage of JWST is its capability of observing the infrared light because it can pass through clouds of dust, which hide many objects in visible light. This capability also helps JWST to show hitherto unknown features of star and planet formation and this helped in understanding the early universe.
In addition, JWST has much more sensitive instruments which allows it to characterize the content of abiotic gas envelopes of distant exoplanets, look for the presence of the signs of habitability or even life. With this, as more data from JWST is received more discoveries are to be made which revolutionize the understanding of the universe and position of mankind in the cosmos.
