The Adverse effect of Being Lonely.

in Project HOPE6 months ago

Loneliness has been around since the beginning of time, and with the fast-rising rate of technology meeting our everyday needs, socializing has become even more difficult, making people feel even more lonely the more. The scary thing about loneliness is that loneliness could happen to people who are even surrounded by others. Some people are surrounded by their spouses, classrooms, and even family members but they are still very lonely.

Different people feel lonely for different reasons, which means there is no one perfect intervention that can be used to handle all the available situations of loneliness. Each one needs to be handled differently. According to experts, the best way to begin to minimize loneliness begins from home, teaching kids the importance of socialization and that being alone, does not mean they are lonely. Identifying on time when kids appear very distant from other kids or feel disconnected.

Anelina Sutin says loneliness affects everything, loneliness in itself is a feeling of uneasiness or being alone. It is the emotional distress felt when there is a need for intimacy and connections are not met. Loneliness is a terrible thing, and it could lead to several damages;

  • Poor health habits: It has been confirmed with evidence that lonely people may engage in behaviors that are more unhealthy when compared to people who feel connected socially.

  • Loneliness interfere with sleep: Some adults who are lonely have been known to suffer insufficient or disrupted sleep.

  • Loneliness may trigger chronic inflammation.

  • Loneliness is bad for the heart, and it increases blood pressure.

  • Loneliness could shorten life span: Because loneliness generally affects our overall health, it increases loneliness and increases the risk of premature death.

An article I read showed that,loneliness is not a mental health issue, but having a mental health issue surely increases the feeling of loneliness one may have. For instance, those struggling with mental health problems may;

  • Find it extremely difficult to enjoy social activities.
  • Find it difficult to try out anything new.
  • Always feel they are going to be a burden to others.
  • Feel overwhelmed in public places.

Loneliness has a very terrible effect on human life as we have correctly stated but there are things that drives loneliness, like a change of job, retirement, heart break, relocating to a new place without family members or friends, retirement, death of a loved one, and sometimes the extreme burden of becoming a parent.
