Financial Education - Tax assessment and characteristics of the verification/assessment and assessment stage

Once any tax information is received by the tax administration the relevant return, it is up to its officials to verify or review whether the return corresponds to the respective law, so as to establish whether the taxpayer has declared correctly.

In most of the states, the estimation stage is determined as the phase resulting from the ex officio assessment procedure. When this occurs, the opening of the administrative summary takes place, a procedure that begins with the issuance of the tax report where the acting official records the facts detected during the audit.

In the liquidation stage, the amount of the tax debt is determined by applying to the taxable base, which is the result of computing the rebates and deductions, the rates contained in the tariff, that is, the calculation operation to quantify the tax to be paid.

In both processes there must be a notification, since once an administrative summary procedure is concluded or not, the resulting liquidation must be notified to the taxpayer, being this phase the one that perfects the administrative act emanating from the tax administration and which may be personal, against delivery of receipt to the taxpayer, with acknowledgment of receipt; by written record delivered by officials at the taxpayer's domicile.

In this way, practiced in an adult person who lives or works in said domicile, who must sign the corresponding receipt and by similar or electronic systems and finally, by notice, when it is impossible to practice the previous notifications and which will contain a summary of the act and will be published only once in one of the newspapers of major circulation of the capital of the republic or of the headquarters of the tax administration.
