"The Jokecoin" is Seven Years Old Today and Still a Top 50 Cryptocurrency

in Project HOPE4 years ago

Dec. 8, 2013, was the date when Jackson Palmer and Billy Markus, the two founders of Dogecoin, "announced with its Scrypt algorithm and the Shiba Inu dog mascot" what is know known in the crypto world as the joke coin. Doge was and still is one of my favorite crytos that I've ever owned.

Shilled by Elon Musk, the second world's richest man alive multiple times on twitter, although being named and considered by even its own creator Jackson Palmer as a joke coin, and hasn't received any update since 2015, Doge is still a top 50 crypto, currently valued at $0.00325975 and almost reaching 2 cents during the 2017 bull market. How awesome is that.

Well, a few things I consider awesome about this shitcoin, which indeed is a shitcoin, one with some real world uses cases, most important ones in my opinion being its tipping use case, fast transaction speed and very low fees and a community that's hard to match.

Soon after its launch it proved its use case in real life issues when the Doge community "helped the Jamaican bobsled team raise enough funds to take part in the 2014 Winter Olympics.". How cool is that? I know that it hasn't yet managed to compete with HIVE or LEO that are taking cryptocurrencies to the true mass adoption level helping people around the world earning a decent income, but still worth mentioning.

At some point you could mine it with a laptop and I assume that there are still plenty of sites that airdrop it on a daily basis. That's basically its main issue, the massive inflation it suffers from. It's already at 127 billion issued tokens and there's practically no limit to that.

It's practicality is undeniable though, it's decentralized unlike XRP and it does what a cryptocurrency should do, act as internet money, be fast and cheap to transfer and on top of that benefiting of a quite strong community of users. I guess people are still tipping Doge around the internet and tbh I'd prefer Publish0x would have its rewards in DOGE rather than AMPL...

Anyway, happy birthday DOGE, the meme crypto that is already seven years old and have a great future ahead! What about you, are you owning any DOGE or ever owned it? What about trading? It seems to have quite a clean trading pattern going on.

Thanks for attention,
Adrian
