Hello Steemians... It's time for yet another contest. Today we ursher into the world of fitness. 🏋️🏋️ It has always borthered me that whenever the issue of fitness comes up, all people talk about is physical fitness. In today's world where appearances are nearly everything, when you talk of being fit, people's minds drift to the gyms. There's no harm in that but is that all fitness is? 💁If you ask me, i think it's not....it's definitely not the kind of fitness I prioritize.


What is fitness
Basically, fitness is the condition of being physically and mentally in good shape and health. Yes, being fit does not only apply to the muscles but the mind as well.

Physically fitness combines components like cardiovascular endurance which is measured by how long or fast an individual can do an activity; strength; healthy weight and flexibility. These are indicators of how fit or in-shape someone is. The most amusing misconception about one of these components is this...people tend to measure flexibility on the body weight of a person. For instance, someone will look at two individuals..one of them slim and the other relatively fat; then they assume that the slim one is more flexibility than her counterpart which may not always be the case. I say this because I have friends who are much larger than me in weight yet more flexible than IAM.

Mental fitness is about creating an environment that welcomes good stress and drives out bad stress. Good stress encourages us to improve on our potentials while bad stress discourages us .

It combines components like; self-acceptance, self-esteem, resilience and the ability to handle strong emotions. This is the kind of fitness I prioritize. Fitness of the mind.💆 I can argue that it is the hardest to do which is why most people brush it off and substitute it with physical fitness. Am not saying that those who love physical fitness are wrong to do so, am saying that there should be a balance... after all, that is what life revolves around.."balance".

What do I do to stay fit?
Something that both the first and second lockdown have given me is time. Time that I have used to cultivate my mental fitness. Having all this time at home with no school can make the mind very idle which is why I always try my best to stay fit. How do I do it? Here is how👇

Yes, games...both physical and mental games but mostly mental. Truth be told, IAM not that physically active unless it involves something associated with dance. Games challenge me to put my mind to task. My favourite games include Monopoly, scarbble, word link and pool. All these games require a certain degree of concentration, thinking and focus. This is exactly what I need to exercise my brain.

Another seemingly boring thing for most people😅😅😅 it is something that our generation has seemed to give up on. A classic example is WhatsApp messages. Group members expect all messages to be short and simplified. Dare to send a long paragraphed message in a WhatsApp group, it will.most likely be ignored or someone will comment saying, "summarize"🤣it's true. No wonder someone once said, "you want to keep something hidden, put it in a book". However, that saying doesn't apply to me because i just love reading alot. If you want to hide something from me, maybe try putting it in a chemistry book, I can never open that one.😅😅😅 If you want to try reading some novels, short stories or poems, I recommend you use the light reader app, it's the one I use and it offers genre options like lifestyle, romance, thriller, motivation, education, business among others with zero ad interruptions.

It's a fun way to exercise your mind and train it to fundamentalize remembering things. My little brother loves it when I tell him a bed time story. The next day before I tell him a new one, he asks me to highlight on the story I told him the day before. In a way, it enhances my ability to remember things down to the last detail; which is also a very important skill in my everyday life.

The mind and body are one so I cannot feed my mind and neglect my body. I mentioned how am not big on physical fitness but I didn't say that I don't do because I indeed do exercise. Honestly, 90% of the time someone pushes me to do it 🤣but I do it regardless.
I also make sure that I eat healthy. That means eating allot of fruits🍇🍉🍊🍌🍎🍒🍓and vegetables 🥦🥒.

Hydrating

This probably one of the most important things to consider when looking at fitness. I even wrote an article on how important it is that we always keep our bodies hydrated.

Even athletes get it. I take alot of water because I know that my body cannot do without it. After all, "Water is life"
