New Poem Composed Under the Covers (at 12:00 am)
Unable to fall asleep last night, this poem almost wrote itself around midnight (when I posted it) from my bed, in the dark...
Thank you, Steemit, for being my mobile diary and allowing me to unburdem myself at any time.
A House Divided
I was in a life-long rush
because I could not tell
when I might self-combust
Every sunrise to sunset
I tried to run far and fast
to outdistance disaster
But I was never free
to be other than me
or reset a date with fate
It was never a given
one secure day to live in
without self-sabotage
So part of me carefully built
a makeshift shelter from the storm
while another part dismantled it
Meantime, I learned to pray
and repeat, by night and by day:
Heaven save us from ourselves.

It has been some time since I read your poetry. That sculpture brings the message across too.
Thanks, for stopping by —- I hope 2020 is off to a good start for you 🙏🏼
