Law building in Smederevo

The court began operating in 1956 as the District Court. Today it covers the town of Smederevo and the municipalities of the Danube Region, the Smederevo Palanka and Velika Plana, and Kovin, the municipality of the South Banat District.

The High Court in Smederevo performs its function in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia, the Law on the Organization of Courts, the Law on Judges, the Rules of Procedure, and on the basis of other substantive and procedural regulations.

There are 12 judges working in the court. The president of the court is Judge Sladjana Bojkovic.

The building where the High Court works together with other judicial bodies in Smederevo was built between 1886 and 1888 according to the project of architect Alexander Bugarski. The architectural concept is based on a symmetrical composition with an E-shaped base. At that time, it was the building of the County Chiefs and Court. The building is under state protection and conservation and restoration work has been carried out on several occasions. The last time was in 1997, and in 1963 a mosaic of R was erected in the central hall.

Today, the High and Basic Courts and the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office operate in this building.

The Republic Square where the High Court building is located is the central square in Smederevo.
