Rainy day in Verona, Italy. Acqui Division massacre
Visited this beautiful city a couple of weeks ago... it's stunning.
You can also see the nicely shaped back of the statue commemorating the Massacre of the Acqui division in Cephalonia, which occurred in September of 1943, during the Axis occupation of Greece. The Italians launched an invasion on Greece but soon after the operation had started, Italians began retreating. In order to help, Hitler sent his troops to help Mussolini out. Italians tried to negotiate an armistice with the Allies but Nazis didn't agree to that. They tried to disarm all of the Italian soldiers stuck on the island of Cephalonia, which they codenamed Operation Achse. The 33rd Acqui division resisted but alas, they ran out of ammunition and they had to surrender to ze Germans. Nazis killed over 7000 men during that operation and 3000 drowned when Allied fleet sunk a German ship transporting Italian POWs to concentration camps.
Also dog peeing.
