The Wreck of the Birkenhead by Charles Dixon.jpg
Source

This photo is a painting of The Birkenhead that sank here at our coast near where I have taken all of the photos below.
I was on a hunt to get some Terns to show you!

This post is also good for #wednesdaywalk hosted by @tattoodjay and for #featheredfriends hosted by @melinda010100

On the 26th day of February 1852, the famous Birkenhead troopship was wrecked and sank further along this same coastline at "Danger Point". The saying; "Women and children first" originated during the sinking after the ship was ripped into two parts, but I digress as I have done a cited post about the Birkenhead before.
I was determined to get some shots of the terns and you can judge if I was successful in the photos below!
Let's have a look!

IMG_2524.JPG

This is the hunting walk and we are going right into the front edge where the rocks meet the ocean!

IMG_2546.JPG

Ah! Here's our first sighting of the swift terns on a rock. They are called swift because of their speed in flight!

IMG_2607.JPG

Bingo! Jackpot! There they were and there were so many of them!

IMG_2612.JPG

They are sharp birds, so they saw my approach and they took off!

IMG_2619_LI.jpg

Now do you see the fisherman in the yellow circle? I will show you later what happens with him!

IMG_2624.JPG

After the terns took off, they didn't fly very far and here they are all settling on another rock!

IMG_2628.JPG

So now the terns thought that they were far away and safe, so that they could relax!

IMG_2679.JPG

Remember the fisherman? Well here he came up behind the terns on his way to the beach!

IMG_2682.JPG

At last some of the terns saw him and the alarm was raised. But notice how close he came to the terns and I will know next time to approach the terns from their rear!

IMG_2656.JPG

With a "whooshing" sound the terns took off and I could even hear them above the sound of the ocean!

IMG_2646.JPG

I was stuck on my rock and would have had to jump into the sea to get closer to them. But oh, what a sight!

IMG_2642.JPG

And finally I leave you all with this dreamy photo!

Some times I visit the beach to sit on the white sand and other times the lagoons are also a favorite.
But on cool cloudy and stormy days there is nothing that beats a walk on the rocks. I don't mean a walk in the shallows on the rocks, but rather at the deep end as that is where the animals feel safe. I even have some shots somewhere of live octopuses in the rocks and it's another world of wonder out there.
Yes, the footing is slippery and in some parts a person has to take some detours, but eventually one can get to the point.
Another great thing is that there are no people at that end of the rocks and you can see in the yellow ringed photo how far away that fisherman was for me.
A big problem would be to misjudge the timing of the incoming high tide, as all of those rocks are swallowed by the sea and people have drowned here in the rip currents. But it is an excellent place for photography purposes!

Note: All of the photos are my own, unedited and only cropped for uploading purposes.
I have used my Canon Powershot SX60 HD to take the photos!

Such beautiful birds! I would love to hear them in flight, but just seeing them is pretty incredible!
Thanks for posting to #featheredfriends!!Tip

Thank you Lady Melinda, sadly they are on the endangered list and I don't know for how long we will continue to see these air masters. The sound of their flight is mesmerizing.
My pleasure to share.
Blessings!

So many species are endangered. Including us!

All our own fault my friend. We can blame nobody else except ourselves!
In our chase after progress, we are destroying forests and wetlands, killing not only nature's inhabitants, but also our very own chances of survival.
Blessings!

You almost had me fooled witht he first shot I was thinking it was a cormorant and not a Tern but then you explained that

Good luck on sneaking up on them from behind

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :)

I think that's why the post is not performing JJ, so this morning I replaced the tag picture with a painting of the Birkenhead that sunk here!
Hoping that it will do a bit better today!
Blessings!

Lets hope that helps its still a mystery to my how posts perform some of my favorite posts I have done have done so terrible LOL

Oh! You too hahahaha. I think that it has something to do with the algorithm JJ and don't ask me what that is.
I know the feeling when one of my best posts flunks my friend, especially when I see crap posts with almost no content getting top payments.
But such is life, as it is not what you know, but who you know!
Blessings!

Thank you JJ and we will see how it performs.
Still the same right now, but there is always hope!
Blessings!

Sometimes hope is all we have :)

Oh yeah, in our case hope is what we live on JJ.
Hope that you guys have a good Friday my friend!
Blessings!

Mind blowing photographs.

Thank you for the kind comment my friend.
Blessings!

Such a gorgeous day, I wish I could be there... Those Sriguls look amazing...

Thank you my dear friend and I can tell you that it is an amazing adventure to be out there on the rocks.
Glad that you liked the post.
Blessings!

Fabulous shots! The beach looks really nice and having so many birds and creatures around makes it even more beautiful. There's so much to observe, contemplate and learn from spending a day at such a beach.

Thank you and that's the thing about our beaches here. Some are only wide expanses of white sand stretching for miles and others have rocky points like this one here. Very dangerous for ships especially in stormy weather.
That's why the sailors have named this place "The Cape of Storms"
Blessings and thank you!
