STORMY TIMES

20200112_191056.jpg

Stormy times over Christmas and New Year, literally and figuratively; guests coming and going in our BnB, some very personal storms and some stormy weather that caused a tree to topple over from our neighbour's property into the bottom part of our garden, fortunately not near any structures!
20200110_140330.jpg

Ever heard the saying - Every house has to bear its own cross - never heard a truer phrase!
This beautiful cross was handmade by my late uncle.

Loadshedding, I hear some say...there she goes again!...Satellite TV Decoders being fried due to power dips...; laundry was a neverending story these holidays; but in between all the storms there was much laughter and joy and always FOOD!
A couple of bees also joined the party, loved our gingerbeer!

But as we all know, the sun will always rise in the East every day so never fear when you're going through that storm; it will pass!
This is how the sun rises every morning here at home.

LOST PROPERTY
Guests without fail leave behind something even though they do a thorough check before departing - one shoe, one sock, a cellphone charger, an adapter, a night gown, one beach thong being popular items; a guest from the States once even left his laptop behind which had to be urgently couriered back across the seas back to him!

GIFTS
Some guests never leave without giving us a gift - choccies, a plant, a pretty bowl or like this beautiful picture frame for our family photos given by regular guests.

THE FOOD

There was lots of it - family, guests and friends all needing sustenance.

We currently have a very nice German gentleman who is here for a month doing charity work - he is not vegan nor vegetarian but requested no meat with any of his meals and a very simple continental breakfast with only muesli, yogurt, fruit, breads, cheeses and marmalade.
Remember the Luscious Lentil Burgers I made for #fruitsandveggiesmonday just this week?
I used the same mixture and made Lentil fritters, served with creamy mashed Potatoes, sauteed Mushroom & Onions, Corn on the cob and Baby Gems. This was a really delicious and satisfying meal.

Our other young guest however enjoys his meat and cooked breakfasts.

Good old English breakfast of Bacon & Eggs

Sausages, scrambled Eggs and a Tomato & Onion gravy

Savoury Mince on toast with poached Eggs

Hubby's back on Keto again and the easiest breakfast for anyone on that eating plan is a Bacon, Cheese & Tomato Omelette.

While we were enjoying the lentil fritters dinner, hubby's Keto dinner was Chargrilled Lemon & Herb Fish, sauteed Mushrooms & Onions, Baby Gems and a green Salad.

So I've only shown you the pretty pics; you should have seen the mess I made in my kitchen some of these fine days, but having a very willing dishwasher branded Hubby ensures the mess is cleared up in no time to make space for all the bods falling about into a food coma!

Whose gona be the funkiest foo fong food fighter here in the foodfightfriday kitchen of the top dogs @idig aka Jon who says he existere, @jlsplatts aka Linetrash who puts two and two together and the cheeky @dandays who appears OutOfThinAir every so often with some gorgeous gems!
Overseen by that very kind @appreciator who knows just how to make anyone's day by visiting our blogs from time to time; nice to be rewarded but even nicer to know one's work is appreciated not so;)

You take excellent photos. I love he ones with the corn on it.

You’re such a sweetheart, @lizelle. This is a great contender. If there’s a reason it isn’t being rewarded more than it currently is, it’s because it’s just right around the corner or you just do it all the time and those big wallets are giving someone else a chance—great entry! I say great when I can relate so much with what the author is saying that I don’t even skim.

Then to mention #outofthinair. BIG hug! I said this just yesterday for the first time, Lily, and here I am saying it again—you made my eyes smile. You’re such a sweetheart—there an echo in here? 🤔

The food looks great, yata yata yata, great pictures of the food, bla bla something else, something else, yeah.. you’re a gangster in the kitchen and I want to gorge myself at your kitchen. Now then..

The personal aspect. Oh man! The worst was the bathroom bag—teeth brushes (cuz we have more than one tooth), deodorant, razor, you know—the bathroom bag!! I can literally roll anywhere and be ok with the obvious electronics, laptop, iPad, etc, obviously I’d never misplace my hardware wallet, those things are in their own locking backpack. Otherwise, I could leave something and rebound out of it but bet your you know what I always, always, always, have an extra set of drawls and the bathroom bag. Oh man! I (we) but really I left it on the back of the bathroom door one time since beginning this journey! Thanks God we were still in the same country! It just recently happened in Israel and, sure, those items are replaceable but you know your bathroom bag and you’re comfortable with its necessities. Anyhow, dude didn’t make it back to the unit for like two days.. oh man! Pura’s deodorant specifically wasn’t found in Israel and had to settle for an antiperspirant. Unfamiliar teeth (because we still have more than one—tooth) brushes for two days, the whole 9–it was miserable! But wait, it gets worse!

Just the last one, in Rome. Dammit, Lily!!! I, not we, I as in just me! EYE left the remote to the AppleTV in Rome! And get this, the host swears it wasn’t in the room—liar! I know exactly where I left it, man! Housekeeping tossed it or something but needless to say, we didn’t get it back. That’s an expensive fix, @lizelle.

Am I still writing? 🤔 It seems I really appreciated this contender of yours young lady.

I’ve been really enjoying standing in the back of this competition. Doing this, what I’m doing now, and managing the sponsorship part of it. Splatts stays real busy, too, handling rewards and that mid-week reminder. It allows me to put more energy into the contender post, too, and I find myself putting a lot more effort into the curating aspect of the mess. Like I’m doing write right now. It’s become quite enjoyable.

But! That’s but with one T. While in Rome, I did take a ishton of pictures from the cooking class we took.. in Italy.. in an Italian woman’s personal house. Pasta from scratch, stuffed ravioli from scratch, authentic sauce, etc. We haven’t received the instructions yet so I’m waiting on those so there’s a contender on the horizon, not like the horizon you pictured of course but I’m really enjoying participating from this position (can you tell?) rather than entering contenders.

I’m still doing it ain’t I, writing? Dang this is long. I haven’t heard the exact saying about each house bears it’s own cross but I’m very familiar with the one in Luke 14 that says each person bears their own cross and, not until this very moment, I learned ‘House’ works the exact.same.way.

Great contender, young lady, you’re such a pleasure to “know.” Ok, I’m done now. 😉

Goodness gracious me, that was a mouthful but very much appreciated dear mr. Dandays; I always look forward to your responses as you really read, not just scan our posts!
Thank you for the Bible verse, I think the saying originates with this verse but is mostly used in my mother tongue, Afrikaans as it rhymes, 'elke huis het sy kruis' so it's used here quite a lot.
You certainly are a flatterer and a very very nice young man, it's wonderful seeing you here in my kitchen:)

Yea I reall nee to wOr on shorteni thes thin dow a littl bit.

Oh no please don't, just love reading your wonderful comments but you had me puzzled there, tohught it was some other language so I will translate for you - elke huis het sy kruis means every home has its cross.

In the end, what has been bringing people together for centuries, been laughed over, cried over, spilt, flung, burnt.... and can be of comfort in hard times.... food.

Thanks for the breakfast ideas, I was just wondering what I was gonna make. Omelettes it is!!! Duck egg omelettes to be exact with some bacon or whatever I have in the fridge.
Happy Food Flingin’

So true, people somehow connect when sharing a meal together! Omelette is the easiest breakfast for sure, never used duck eggs before, is the taste similar?
Thanks for the nice comments!

Great food as always @lizelle, but I don't know how you manage it. With your guests, storms, fallen trees and your help off on Holiday, wow girl friend amazing.
Have a wonderful weekend and don't forget eat!! 😉😊

You just take it day by day and feel kind of shell-shocked at the end of some days but nothing that a good night's sleep and loads of humor can't fix;)
Thank you so very much for your wonderful comments always @farm-mom!

Socks, shoes & clothes always end up under the beds, that cute little shoe has been sent back to its owner via courier at her expense and request as the little guy will certainly grow out of it fast; they've been coming here annually. Thank you so much for the Engage, much appreciated :)
