Well, it wasn't really the turning point of the war, that was actually D-Day when the allies landed on the beaches of Normandy and began to push back the Germans which culminated with victory in Europe on May 8th 1945 (VE Day).

It could also be argued that the bombing of Pearl Harbour was a turning point as it brought the United States into the war. Either would be good options as turning points.

It was certainly the beginning of the conflict between Australia and Japan though...Which went right through to 1945 and the end of the war when the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima 6th August and Nagasaki 9th August.
