Brave Browser Review: One Week Later
For the past week, I've switched to using Brave as my primary web browser. I first started using it on my computer and then within the next day, I installed it onto my phone. On my computer at least, I'd uninstalled Chrome completely.
My week with the browser has been overall a great one. I've now signed into all my accounts on it so I haven't needed to use any other browser. One of the biggest things that I've enjoyed is the built-in adblocker. I haven't ran into any of those annoying "Please turn off your adblocker" messages that I often ran into when I was using Adblock Plus with Chrome. Brave really cares about your privacy and it shows.
One quick note, speed has never been a problem for me with this browser. It's fast and responsive and has been that way since day one for me. I'd say that it does feel faster for me than Chrome did.
Lastly, let's talk about the BAT (Basic Attention Tokens) that I've earned by enabling non-intrusive ads between both my computer and phone. In my last article, my only criticism of the browser was that it seemed like I'd lost some BAT. It turns out that it was simply a visual glitch and it came back later that day. Since then, no further issues like that have happened.
Over the past week on my computer itself, I've earned 4.6 BAT which is worth $1.22 at the time of this writing.
Over the past week on my phone, I've earned 3.0 BAT which is worth $0.80 at the time of this writing.
So just for being on my devices and surfing the internet (which I do everyday anyway), I've earned $2.00 in the past week. That's not a lot, but no other browser pays you to use it. As I said before, if you don't think you're earning enough for it to be worth it for you to see those ads, you can disable those ads all-together. You have full control over it.
My honest review of Brave can be described in one word, incredible. I'm getting paid to surf the internet which I do anyways. It has great built-in security features including the best adblocker that I've ever used before. It's faster for me than Chrome was and has the ability to add Chrome add-ons so you won't have to make any compromises in switching to it.
I won't be using Chrome again any time soon!
I've been using brave for almost a year now. When my grandmother got a new computer at Christmas, I switched her from Chrome to Brave. And she's using it now, too!
Good writeup, btw...
Nice! Thank you.
AdBlock is dumb and lets ads through time to time, hence I suggest using uBlock Origin instead, which is open source and really strong in blocking ads. I've been using Brave on my phone for a while myself. It's pretty good, yeah, took a bit to get used to but I can't complain, other than sometimes I have to go to Google instead of DuckDuckGo to search for something in my native language and actually get helpful results. Plus earning BAT is not available in my country... :/
I have been using brave since November 2019. I also think the BAT earnings are a nice bonus to my usual surfing activities. Recently some websites have informed me to turn off my ad blocker (such as https://www.publish0x.com/?a=nXe0kWLdxr). I just turned off my brave shield for that site and it worked well. I still use chrome even-though brave is my main browser (I also use the new MS edge). Do you have any experience in private / private with tor browsing of brave?

How many ads have you received this week? I have read that the number of advertisements depends on the country in which Brave Browser is used. I have been testing the browser for a few days now and am enthusiastic about it, but have not yet received a single advertisement and therefore have not earned a BAT.
I live in the US, but I've heard that counties outside of the US don't tend to show nearly as many ads as users in the US for some reason. For the past week and a half roughly, I've been shown 124 ads just on my PC. On my phone using the browser, I've received 98 over the past week.
