We have various collectibles around here, and earlier this year made the decision to start getting rid of them... pretty much for the same reasons you outline: Those stamp and coin collections would eventually end up in a garage sale for $50, or we can systematically sell them off on eBay NOW and actually extract much of the value by getting them slowly into the hands of other collectors...
... and maybe even buy a little crypto or something currently enjoyable with the proceeds.

@blewitt has mentioned stories of valuable comic collections being essentially given away to his store. It is kind of sad to have a life of love lost for nothing, but then, maybe it is for someone else to pick up and love.
If we can sell anything, it will buy more paint :D
