4 Formula 1 Teams that dominated the sport

in OCD4 years ago (edited)

We know that Mercedes have truly been an unbeatable force in Formula 1. But which other teams had been so powerful in dominating the same way as Mercedes did in the past history? I will share you the story here.

Mercedes 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 & 2019

Let us start with the story of Mercedes themselves. They were winning the championship after championship ever since the start of the V6 turbo era from 2014. The partnership of Lewis Hamilton's precise driving and Nico Rosberg's heavy mental strength to overcome his fellow team mate in the sport drove Mercedes into championship victory year after year.

Only the Ferrari team could come close to them in some of the seasons. Even with their higher powered engines in 2019 Ferrari failed again to beat the Mercs.

RedBull 2010, 2011, 2012 & 2013

There is no doubt in the talent of the great German driver and racer Sebastian Vettel. He had shown so much potential even when he was in a mid powered Torro Rosso car back in 2008.

In 2009 he was promoted to the senior team at Redbull. He came super close to the leader winning several races that year. But it was the 2010 season where he really shined among the best. He fought against several drivers of great calibre such as Fernando Alonso and Mark Webber. He contained the pressure and rose to the top winning the championship by a margin of just 4 points from the second placed Alonso. Ever since that year Redbull was dominating the sport till the 2013 which was the last year naturally aspirated engines were to be used.

Ferrari 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 & 2004

The Ferrari - Michael Schumacher combo will forever be remembered among F1 fans. Some hate it some love it but for sure it was one of the greatest Motorsport history in the making.

Schumacher had been racing for Ferrari from 1996 but it was in 2000 that the car felt great and responsive to driver as per Schumacher. He won that year in the penultimate race at Japan, beating McLaren driver Häkkinen by 0.009s to pole and eventually winning the race to seal the championship. From the year 2000 to until 2004, Ferrari dominated the F1 seasons.

This era also had the most controversies surrounding the drivers at Ferrari with many stating that Rubens Barrichello was harshly asked by the team manager to slow down, block other cars to ensure victory for Schumacher in several racers. What was the truth is anyone's guess.

McLaren 1988,1989,1990 & 1991

Ayrton Senna da Silva , the greatest racing driver of all time as said by many racing greats. He previously drove for Lotus team and moved to the McLaren Honda team in 1988.

Though a very contreversial season with Senna and his team mate Alain Prost battling for victories and fighting against each other in several races, eventually they understood that to win a championship they must work together and help Honda test the limits of the car.

McLaren dominated that season with back to back victories. Either Senna or Prost would take 1st or 2nd and hence Mclaren won 15 of the 16 races that season. A truly remarkable achievement in motorsports. With the scary speed and never before seen domination of McLaren in that season, the FIA limited the turbo boost of the cars and for the next season races were a bit more evened out for the top teams. But still McLaren racked up 3 more championships on the following years with Senna winning 3 and Alain Prost only winning one in 1989 (while at McLaren).
