Thank you for rationally explaining this issue. So much bad advice on Steem and elsewhere.
Most people spreading rumors barely understand statistical analysis so they have no idea how decisions which affect entire populations are made.
Wash your hands, avoid unnecessary travels and listen to the authorities.
Yes... unfortunately, the lack of understanding doesn't stop people from screaming about things that they know little about. I am seeing some pretty weird stuff though... the "funniest" was that the Virus is an Earth Nature reaction to the deployment of 5G?!?!?
LOL. At least when the explanations are that crazy, those saying it are already labelled as whackos and the only people listening are probably already beyond help.
In these cases, I'd rather have people go overboard in social or self-isolation than ignore that. So the preppers and the shut-ins who normally seem a little off have the best strategy. When they say I told you so, I smile, but when they start ranting about the Chinese or American government, I tune it out if they seem serious or join in on the nonsensical speculation and conspriacy if I think they are joking.
