SDG Goals: Goals I Especially Want To See In My Continent, Africa.
I think we can all agree the world is not headed towards a very good destination right now and we need to set some goals to change the course of the future and make it liveable. The Sustainable development goals serve as a roadmap to building the better world we envision for the future. The youth are the future and I believe these goals are beseeching on us as we’re going to be the leaders of the next decade and the decade to follow by 2030. This roadmap is set to be realized by 2030 and more than 200 countries of the United Nations have been dedicated to realizing these goals for a better standard of life since their inception in 2015. What are these goals that are supposed to make the future better then?
SDG Goal 1: No Poverty
This goal is put in place to eradicate poverty all over the world. It comes as a rescue for people living below the poverty lin. What is the poverty line? People living on less than $1.25 a day are below the poverty line and the SDG goal 1 is aimed at ensuring that by 2030, the population of people living below the poverty line as of 2015 is cut by at least half. It also aims at ensuring equal rights of access to economic resources to the poor.
SDG Goal 2: Zero Hunger
By 2030, we envision a world with no hunger. The poor and the vulnerable like the aged and infants should have access to nutritious food, not forgetting lactating mothers and pregnant teenagers. This will be achieved by providing equal access to farm lands, agricultural tools, knowledge and financial services to improve productivity in the agricultural sector, hence eliminating hunger.
SDG Goal 3: Good Health and well being
We have recorded and are still recording countless cases of death during or after pregnancy. By 2030, we expect to have reduced maternal mortality rate by 0.0007% (70 per 100,000 births). We also aim to cut down the numbers of neonatal deaths by 0.012% (12 per 1,000 births).
We also expect to see an end to sexually transmitted diseases like AIDS and Hepatitis, malaria and the number of non-communicable diseases leading to premature deaths. Sub organizations like UNICEF have been setup to see to some of these.
The good health and well being goal aims to curb and handle issues of drug abuse preventing mortality due to overdoses on addictive and narcotic drugs like cocaine and heroin. Road accident injury and mortality rate should be reduced at least by half.
SDG Goal 4: Quality Education
This goal gears at providing free, accessible and quality education to boys and girls, men and women and increase the number of skilled youth in society. It is also aimed at promoting gender equality in terms of education and to encourage female education all over the world.
The SDGs are not just here to be worked on by the government or any special people. We all have a part to play in it. I especially love the part about gender equality and female empowerments because I am a woman. Lets help bring the SDGs into reality by each playing our parts. Thank you @youthclub for this contest.
