He ordered federal assistance to carry out an emergency response in the region to debris from Hurricane Ida. Floods blocked major highways in New Jersey and New York, including Manhattan, the Bronx and Queens, submerging cars and forcing firefighters to save hundreds of lives.

Meanwhile, in New York, United States, hundreds of subway passengers were rescued after being hit by flash floods caused by Hurricane Ida. Water floods a New York subway station. A Rare Phenomenon in Greenland

Heavy rains in Greenland have been rare since a similar event occurred in 1950. In addition, temperatures in the region have fallen below freezing for the third time in less than a decade. The extreme rainfall in the glacier is caused by the warm air over Greenland and the wasted 7 billion tons of water in the ice sheet. The amount of wasted water is estimated to be sufficient to fill the reflection pool at the Lincoln Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, DC approximately 250,000 times.

According to the National Snow and Ice Data Center, Greenland's rainfall is the highest since 1950. This year, the amount of ice lost from rain was seven times the daily average. The disappearance of the iceberg occurred on Sunday (15 August 2021). Jennier Mercer, Program Director of the NSF Polar Program Department, said peak station operations needed to change after heavy rains in Greenland. Unprecedented weather events must be described in the operational history of the Summit Station.

Ice loss is increasing rapidly due to human-caused global warming. A major UN climate report published this August concluded that the melting of ice in Greenland over the past two decades was due to the burning of fossil fuels. A recent study published in the journal Cryosphere found that Earth has lost a staggering 28 trillion tons of ice since the mid-1990s, much of it from the Arctic, including the Greenland ice sheet.

Due to artificial global warming, the amount of ice lost is increasing rapidly. A major UN climate change report released last August concluded that the melting of Greenland's ice over the past two decades was caused by the burning of fossil fuels. According to a recent study published in the journal Cryosphere, Earth has lost up to 28 trillion tons of ice since the mid-1990s, mostly from the Arctic Circle, including the Greenland ice sheet.

In March 2019, BBC Indonesia reported rain in Greenland during the winter. If the rains continue, the ice will melt rapidly and sea levels will rise. These conditions can threaten the density of coastal populations around the world. Similar events have been repeated this year, raising concerns about rising sea levels and the danger to humans, especially in the world's coastal regions.

Cities in Indonesia that are in Danger of Drowning

Coastal areas are threatened by rising sea levels due to the impact of the climate crisis which causes land subsidence. In fact, in some areas it is no longer a threat, instead it occurs and floods people's homes. The Kompas newspaper analyzed the impact of sea level rise in 21 state capitals. This analysis combines local government spatial, demographic, economic, and policy analyzes to use simulated sea level rise data from Climate Central, a non-profit organization. From this analysis, we derive a vulnerability score for each region.

It is not impossible that the situation will get worse. Indeed, a number of studies have predicted sea level rise that could hit Indonesia's coastal cities/districts in the coming decades. Many capital cities, such as Jakarta and Palembang, are also included in the list of very vulnerable categories. In the future, unfavorable consequences are of course possible for all of us, but it is not impossible for all of us to narrow down all the worst possibilities. It is time to continue to urge the government to urgently, seriously and ambitiously commit to zero-emissions for our future sustainability.

In total, out of 21 cities, about 118,000 hectares of land were flooded, affecting 8.6 million people. The total economic loss is estimated at Rp 1,576 trillion. The Climate Center uses digital "coastal DEM" elevation data with varying precision depending on the region. Therefore, the simulation also uses climate scenarios that assume that the world will reduce pollution significantly. This scenario is called RCP2.6 by the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change).

In addition, due to the nature of the tidal flood, locations below the tidal flood level do not always occur because the tide takes a long time to reach land and can retreat quickly before reaching the flood site. In some cities, subsidence exacerbates the threat of seawater infiltration. According to ITB geographer Heri Andreas, several large cities on the north coast of Java which were built on alluvial or sedimentary soils such as Jakarta, Pekalongan and Semarang are large, more than 10 cm per year, the land subsidence occurs.

A number of cities that are predicted to sink are Banjarmasin, Jakarta, Tanjung Pinang, and Gorontalo City. Rukuh Setiadi, an urban planning expert at Diponegoro University, said the local government and residents were not fully aware of rising sea levels as a threat to the region. The nature of the threat is so small that it is not recognized as a threatening disaster due to changes in water or land subsidence.
