Greetings again to the house. I’m back again to complete my achievement 2 task, dubbed,
BASIC SECURITY ON STEEMIT.

In order to be free from threat and danger it is important that you put in place the maximum amount of security. In the case of online (steemit), we have keys and/or passwords to ensure this. Steemit provides us with very unique keys, only left on us to find safety for them out of reach of anyone so we can access them when need be.

To ensure we have the primary protection against unauthorized access to our steemit accounts, the platform generates different and very unique private personal keys to its users. Each key performs a different function.

It’s worth mentioning that one should not bother committing these keys to memory as there are several ways to store them, both online(by saving them as draft in you gmail, etc) and offline(by pasting them in your notes, saving them as a file, etc).

RETRIEVE ALL KEYS ON STEEMIT?

Of course, yes I have.
I have saved them offline in different forms(pdf, etc) and in different places.

FUNCTIONS ANS RESTRICTIONS OF EACH KEY

The Private Posting Key

This key is used to browse steemit as a regular social media. As the name suggests, this key is used for posting; sharing information on the steemit platform (posting, commenting on post, editing posts, following and muting other users, etc). That is to say, you cannot perform any form of transactions with your posting key. So your steemit funds are still safe should a person have access to your posting key.

Private Active Key

This key is used for matters relating to your steemit wallet. It used to transfer tokens, convert tokens, power up and down, update profile information, perform withdrawal, vote for witnesses, among others.

Private Owner Key

This is the key needed to change the other keys(posting key, owner key, active key) incase of threat or if the need arises. This is needed to recover your account, decline voting rights, among others.

Private Memo Key

This key is used here on the steemit blockchain to decrypt and encrypt private messages especially when transferring funds. To encrypt a memo, use the pound sign(#).

HOW I AM KEEPING MY MASTER PASSWORD

My Gmail draft has a copy of my keys. Also, I have offline folders housing my keys and passwords.

HOW TO TRANSFER STEEM TOKEN TO ANOTHER STEEM USER ACCOUNT

First, Find at the top right corner of your screen, a profile avatar, and click on it to open a drop down menu.

Next, Find “wallet” among the drop down list and click on it.

Next, Find a downward pointing arrow attached a floating number + STEEM “(xx.xxx STEEM )” and click on the arrow to open a drop down menu.

Next, Select “Transfer”.

Next, Input the steemit username of the recipient of the transfer into “To” form input space and the amount you’re sending into the “Amount” space.

Finally, Click “Next” to confirm the transaction.

HOW TO POWER UP STEEM

First, Find at the top right corner of your screen, a profile avatar, and click on it to open a drop down menu.

Next, Find “wallet” among the drop down list and click on it.

Next, Find a downward pointing arrow attached a floating number + STEEM “(xx.xxx STEEM )” and click on the arrow to open a drop down menu.

Next, Click on “Power Up” on the drop down menu.

Next, enter the amount you want to power up with.

Finally, click “Power Up” to confirm transaction.

Basically, this is all you need to know about your steemit keys and your security on the steemit blockchain.
