What is Plagiarism

With the aid of studies and due research, I discovered the meaning of Plagiarism and what it means especially on #Steemit. This enables me to outline plagiarism as the act of reproducing content of others primarily in the act of copy and pasting without the prior knowledge of the person, or at times maybe without showing where content was taken. As expected this is bad and should be avoided by all costs because it inhibits originality of content.

Types of Plagiarism

  1. SELF PLAGIARISM
As predicted in its name, self-plagiarism is when one copies and paste content initially written by oneself.
This is common in scenarios where we are supposed to write new content, usually for validation, and we happen to just copy the initial material we wrote and paste.
  2. DIRECT PLAGIARISM
It refers to the deliberate reproduction of another's material without their due knowledge and even in some cases indicating the original write-up link.
  3. ACCIDENTAL PLAGIARISM
This type is the act of willfully reproducing another’s material, however not providing a link indicating the write-up made by the author.
  4. MOSAIC PLAGIARISM
In this case, the defaulter does not insert the copied content in quotes, which should indicate it is a borrowed idea (from another source), or fails to show that the work is borrowed by any other means.

As well thought, plagiarism is to be avoided, as it the author feels used when they see their initial material being used without a care, and on the other end, discredits the defaulter as his material will seldom be looked upon if found that he is using plagiarized content

Other Etiquettes to Consider on #Steemit

Plagiarism is not the other etiquette that we are bound to focus on this platform. Some include:

    • Begging for votes: This is especially a common trait for newbies as they aspire to find more votes primarily through unscrupulous means such as bribing, which helps to exterminate the morals both personally and as a whole community. It is incumbent that this should be avoided at any cost.
    • Over Posting: Posting a lot may lead to boredom causing ones followers not to take material seriously as well as resteeming it.
    • Upvoting and Commenting on other posts: Usually deliberately or not, most often we post our contents and do not upvote the posts by fellow steem users' while selfishly waiting for them to upvote ours. We have to create time when needed either to congratulate or criticize each other as this helps to grow the forte.

    Disadvantages of Plagiarism

It usually leads to low self-esteem and self-doubt as the author is left to feel stupid not to come out with primary content.
It affects very negatively one's reputation because once people notice content is not original, trust becomes difficult to built.
If taken very seriously in some cases, the defaulter may face a heavy fine and even a prison sentence in dangerous situations if guilty.
I would plea with us to avoid copying and pasting materials without the prior knowledge of the author, and if it arrives a case where it is mandatory, let the material always be referenced (put in quotes). This gives respect to the original author and of course promotes peace.

    Adding a citation

I did then what I knew how to do. Now that I know better, I do better.

Hello, I am reddileep from Greeter Fairy Team.

You need to include an example for the citation method. After that, we will verify your achievement post.
