In general it takes about $280 in SP for the upvote to be worth a penny.

Even though your upvote isn't worth much, you should upvote other posts as it is a great way to network on the platform.

Each upvote consumes 2% of your voting power. Voting power regenerates at 20% a day. That means you get 10 upvotes a day. You should drop some votes on other posts and watch your voting power regenerate. That way you can learn the rhythm of the platform.

Since you are interested in math you should pay attention to the equation. I agree that it is wise for new users to select 100% power up. However, if your goal is to learn the platform, there is benefit in the 50/50. This gives half of your rewards in SBD and you have to figure out how to turn the SBD into STEEM POWER.
