It is actually great to participate in this achievement task again. In my previous post, I had made a goal of making sure I complete my achievement task. Below is my achievement 3

Plagiarism

Plagiarism according to Wikipedia is the use of another person's language, thought, ideas or expressions as one's original work, without acknowledging the original owner of the work.

Plagiarism has different definitions based on the context it is being used. It is an offensive thing to do, and can damage a person's reputation.

Common Types of Plagiarism

• Direct plagiarism: it is coping a person's idea,expression or thoughts word for word without giving attribution or quotation marks to show that it was copied from another person.
• self plagiarism: This is when a person copies their previous thought, expression or ideas and submits it without getting permission from the people the assignment is submitted to.
• Accidental plagiarism: this is when a person does not properly reference or cites sources he collected a work from due to negligence. Sometimes it could be unintentional probably because a person does not know how to cite or reference properly.
• Mosaic plagiarism: it occurs when a person changes just the words of another author without using quotation marks to show that it was copied from another author.

Consequences of Plagiarism

• plagiarized works are sometimes termed criminal offence and could lead to prison sentence.
• it could lead to a destruction in a person's reputation
• most institutions see plagiarism as a serious offense, students who are caught could be expelled from school
• some professional could be fired from work if found in acts relating to plagiarism.

How to avoid plagiarism

• Always use a plagiarism checker to check uniqueness of a work before submission
• Always give credit to the owner whose work you copied
• Always put down sources which was consulted during a research check the example below

example; Conway and Mansa in an Investopedia article sees blockchain as a type of database that store data in blocks that are chained together.

• Always credit original user of a work either by text citation or in reference list.
• Always use your own idea

Plagiarism is a serious offense, it spoils a person's reputation. A person's effort could be wasted as a result it is always beneficial to use a person's own words and avoid copying without stating the original authors.
