ACHIEVEMENT 3 BY @vibrant6689: MENTORED BY @kingwoldline || TASK: CONTENT ETIQUETTES IN STEEMIT

in Newcomers' Community3 years ago

Hello my fellow steemians.
I’m @vibrant6689 and I’m here to do justice to my achievement 3 which has to do with content etiquette.

What is plagiarism?
Plagiarism is simply defined as the act of abducting someone’s idea and applying it in your own way as though you are the originator without proper or no credit to the real owner.

Funny enough how this simple definition has deceived a lot of people to copy verbatim with the single reason of applying citation at the end,
But a critical look into the subject matter will make you understand that whether you cited or not, as far as 70% of your work is not originated from you, that is plagiarism.
Now you know, citation is not enough. At least, try to make it 50 – 50 with a proper and accurate citation.

Types of plagiarism:
There are basically 4 types of plagiarism. These are;

  1. Mosaic plagiarism: this occurs when a person makes use of an information from a source without using quotation marks, or apply synonyms for the author’s words even though he is still using the same general structure and idea of the original work.

  2. Accidental plagiarism: this takes place when an individual refuses to acknowledge or cite the original source.

  3. Direct plagiarism:
    This involves word- for-word copying of a section of another person’s work without recognition nor quotation marks.

  4. Self plagiarism;
    This type occurs when a person submits his/her own recent work, or mixes part of recent work without approval from all professors involved.

BEST WAY TO AVOID PLAGIARISM;

• Make sure you understand what plagiarism is all about so that you don’t fall prey.

• You have to be very sensitive when it comes to paragraphing so as not to pass your limit

• Always inform the rightful owner before making use of his or her work

• Citation is very important. So always ensure you acknowledge your source

• It always pays to be original. Therefore, be in the habit of tasking yourself to generate your own content.

CONSEQUENCES OF PLAGIARISM
You dare not plagiarize in steemit community as such act is against the rules of conduct and hence, a punishable offense.
Therefore, in a situation where such issue comes up, the defaulter faces consequences ranging from, down voting, losing your integrity etc.
Consult steemit FAQ to get more information about plagiarism and the implementations that comes with it.

Conclusion
after my gentle perusal on major important documents that deals extensively on content etiquette, my IQ was widened enough to note that plagiarism is not just limited to copy and paste without citation but actually also emphasizes on the percentage of your copied work regardless of whether you cited or not. For example, just as I stated above, if 70% content of your work is gotten from external source, it is “PLAGIARISM” regardless of your perfect citation.
Hence, I advice it’s better you task your self hard for a suitable major quota of the required information, then resort to external source when necessary than just depending on it.
And I also noticed that plagiarism is a big time punishable offense, hence, I promise to play safe.
I have read and properly understood the steemit Etiquette on steemit community and will do my best to apply them.
