Plagiarism

Plagiarism can be defined as copying somebody's work and treating it as yours.

It can also be regarded as stealing someone's ideas and passing it of as ones own.

It is an act of fraud, because it involves both stealing somebody's work and going as far as lying about it.

Can ideas and Words be Stolen?

Yes, because original ideas is an Intellectual property and protected by the copyright laws.

What can be considered plagiarism

Copying many words and ideas from a source and making it majority of your work

Giving out incorrect information about the source of a quotation

Turning somebody's work into yours.

How to avoid Plagiarism

you can avoid by citing sources, acknowledging that the material was borrowed and providing the informations necessary to find the source can prevent Plagiarism.

Types of Plagiarism

There are four types Plagiarism and they are as follows :

Direct Plagiarism

It involves taking writing from another writer without proper mention of the source you took it from. Among all, direct Plagiarism is the most harmful kind of plagiarism. When the offender copies and paste texts from another person's work without citing the source.

Mosaic Plagiarism

This kind is unintentional, the person may have mentioned the source of the content but may not have acknowledge the quoted part or put them under the quotation mark correctly. Then the the person may have committed Plagiarism.

Self Plagiarism

This is the most common type of Plagiarism,where students submit some kind of paper for two different class projects and without asking the lecturer. It is considered to be Plagiarism. Although This kind of Plagiarism does not end up with serious legal issues that can affect research papers.

Accidental Plagiarism

This kind of Plagiarism involves when th person involve misquotes parts or phrases of the text taking from the source material or cites as wrong source, then its considered as Plagiarism.
