Plagiarism refers to showcasing someone else’s ideas or works as if it is your own, with or without their consent, or by putting it into your work without full acknowledgement of the original author.

All published and unpublished materials, be it in manuscript, printed or electronic form, is subject to this definition.

Plagiarism may be intentional or unintentional but whatever be the case, it comes with its own consequences.

The need to acknowledge others’ works or ideas applies only not to texts but also computer codes, art works, data, images and other information or resources downloaded from the internet.

Forms of plagiarism

• Word for word(without referencing the Sources)
  Whenever we are using someone's text word to word in our posts it is necessary to put them in quotation marks and also to site the source of that text as a reference to help avoid plagiarism, if this is not done then it is plagiarism that we are doing.

• Paraphrasing
  Paraphrasing refers to when we change few words or text of other people's words or text and changing their order, or by closely following the structure of their argument, this is plagiarism if we do not reference to the author whose work you are using.

• Inaccurate citation
  It is very necessary that we cite correctly the source of the text or idea that were are using in our post that belongs to someone else.

Why we should avoid plagiarism

Plagiarism is a breach of post integrity, all our post should be authentic as possible and this will make the post valuable since the ideas we are posting about is our own and even when we incorporate other people's work we give them the necessary acknowledgement. Lets us all be creative and authentic as possible for the betterment of this community.

What is the penalty for plagiarism

• You will be tagged and other people on the platform will not pay much attention to your work since they are not authentic

• In cryptoacademy when you're caught doing plagiarism you will score zero and you won't be rewarded for the post.
